    Just wondering if some of you who show red/white B's could take a pic of your Sal leads, and if its not too much to ask, even a pic of them on the dog, please ??? :D…

    I find the biggest problem is trying to buy a lead that will blend into the red coat. I dont like dark leads on the reds, I want the lead to be 'invisible' and Im having a HUGE problem finding what I want. Currently showing them all on a white paracord lead, with a bit of bling, but they are ruined so quickly by your dirty food encrusted hands, they now all look grey :(...

    Ok just going to finish catching up on all the Basenji threads, then Im off to email Sal :)…

    For those that show red/whites, with Sal's leads, what colour do you use to show the dogs in, out of Sal's leather choices ???

    Saba, I got it in black to stand out against Pippin's colors and also to make the brindle gold/black beads stand out more..as I am wanting them on there for Otis..(silly maybe)..but she had a almost like congac color that seems like it would be nice, I'd think. I know a few people has her leads, they should be able to help out better than me.

    Finally received Pippin's show lead from Sal Wuornos…..I must say I love it...she does an amazing job. The lead is 36" braided black leather, I chose two brindle beads, for Otis...and one silver paw print bead. The chain is braided onto the lead which makes it much slimmer, no bulky clip. Thanks Tanza and Nemo for letting me know about her leads.

    Very nice. I'm sure you'll be happy with it for a long time. I have another kangaroo lead and it stretched out a couple of inches after use for a short while. The one I have from Sal hasn't changed at all so far. It's currently on a hiatus until I get my next pup. Although, I'll probably get that pup its own lead too, lol.

    Sal has made one up for me and is sending it to Crufts with Katie Boyd - I'm really excited to be getting it and I too would like to thank Pat and Nemo for their recommendation.

    Petro, glad you are happy with yours and Patty, I am sure you will be also. Interesting Clay that your other kangaroo stretched… I have some from other people and have not had that problem. But nice to support a "basenji person"... gggg

    My personal preference is that I like a snap on the lead as I tend to show different dogs with different head sizes and I don't like using a chain that is really way long. I have had too many experiences with having a Basenji "back" out of the collar...ggg.. and NOT amusing in the show ring

    Word of advise…. only use this as his "show" lead.... he will quickly learn the difference between a walking lead and a show lead.... all of mine, when the show lead goes on, they know what they will be doing!!!

    At home, put it on him and practice on the table with stacking... and in the yard for moving...

    That is kind of what I figured to do..don't want him to get complacent, yet I do want him to get used to it and comfortable with it.

    Patty I have decided to wait till I see whats at Crufts, before ordering from Sal. I do really love her leads, and I will probably still get 1 or 2, or 3, or 4, (I NEED 1 for each dog of course !!!), but will wait till I get home, when I have some money again ;)…

And really, if you are planning to purchase such a prized piece of Art, shouldn't you educate yourself so you can make an intelligent decision instead of allowing others to tell you what to buy? As an aside: The original YouTube link remains, but we certainly do not need her entire catalog of videos. Sharing information is one thing, advertising for someone is another. I would hope that you understand that not everything you see online is true. Including claims to be an expert, certified, trained, Dr., etc., etc. Lots of people in the world are just selling a story.

    Just a suggestion: When you see him "misbehaving" by chewing on 'less than ideal' items, offer him one of his toys and use the word "trade". In other words, 'chew on this instead', and when he accepts the toy - praise him. And when you see him get the toy on his own, praise him again. It could help him understand that certain toys are just for those times when you want to "rip someone's head off*". (*not meant literally, only in doggy world play)

    Way back when, Topper was the 'demo dog' for his puppy and adult classes, he would always do the new things, but get annoyed if the instructor kept asking him to do it again. "Hey Lady, I know what I'm doing, no need to repeat it!" Nicky became the demo dog for agility as she is fearless and loves heights. She did like to make the teeter-totter slam to the floor, and jump off grinning. Basenjis ARE smart and seem to excel at all sorts of classes as long as it's fun for them. Have fun with Kismet!

    Thanks for the ideas! I had forgotten the collar training totally - as well as walking in leash nicely. Fortunately I have some training collars at home, before my order of measure made sighthound leather collars will arrive (at age of 8 weeks). We have now -20 Celsius and 1 meter snow in South-Finland, so it is impossible to start potty training in the garden ;) More ideas are welcome!

    @tanza: I think you are waiting too long. You should have two complete sets of shots before class. Waiting till they are 15/16wks you are missing critical socialization skills. Waiting for "all the shots" is pretty much old school these days. My pups go out even before that to things like lure trials… you just need to be careful and not let them "get" into anything like "old poop" laying around. I'm planning on taking her around the time of the 2nd shots if I can. But the problem is that the next round of puppy classes doesn't start till the last week of March, which would be around 14 weeks anyway. Maybe they will let me join the last half of the previous class but I'd have to check into that.

    @dmcarty: When mine are babies I do paper train them within the kitchen - then gradually reduce the amount of paper until just one section remaining. Then comes the interesting part - when they head for that paper - I know they need to go out. I also have a 'paper' by the door we use to go out to the dog yard - so head for paper - go outside - pretty quickly don't need paper at all as they go to the door. With adult dogs who know the 'door' I find that the puppies just follow and the previous generation teaches the new generation. (guess they only need me to bring the food) and they don't tear the paper? Geez, mine LOVE LOVE LOVE to shred paper. No paper on the floor is safe. I am amazed that yours leave it alone and actually use it properly!
