Mom + 6 Puppies in Colorado Basenji Rescue

Basenji Rescue
  • Unsure if this was already posted, but doesn't look like it. I contacted Peggy Shifflet a couple days ago and they are still looking for homes for some of these puppies.

They are purebred, and listed on the 'Colorado Basenji Rescue' website if anyone is interested. They will only work will homes that are near their particular area.

They are red and black; absolutely adorable.

According to the website they were born Dec. 12 so they are still being held until they are ready for new homes.

  • OMG they are adorable fat little babies! I know there were 2 litters of pups that came to CBR on Christmas. As well as 7 (?) adults. So, even if you're not quite up to puppy fever, please let Peggy (aka Colorado Basenji Rescue) know . And if you're not in the market for a new pup or dog, donations are always appreciated as these dogs did not come with trust funds.

  • Anyone know if/how many of these puppies might be around still? The website listed 6 and shows 1 still available. I also read somewhere (another thread or forum, can't remember) that there may have been 2 litters for a total of ~12 puppies, but the site has only listed 6. Would love to hear from anyone who may have taken the time to visit the puppies or might have more info. We've reached out directly as well and are awaiting further info.

EDIT: Nevermind, we found that the CO rescue isn't willing to send puppies this far east. We have found a pup elsewhere from a breeder.

Reading the story in the first link, I didn't look at the others after that, literally made me nauseous. It's hard to imagine a person could do that to any living creature and I hate the fact that animal abuse laws have not been updated and therefore do not give out as harsh of punishments as they should.

I have been in contact with Karen and she is actively looking for me as well. So far only young males are available. I appreciate you taking the time in responding! Keeping my hopes up! Kandie

@Patty: Hi everyone, just to close this mystery- the ladies involved disappeared, so to speak- they don't answer phone calls or emails, and while we were supposed to meet on Saturday, neither one answered their phones to coordinate anything. I found the exact picture that they used on Craig's list on puppyfinder.com. Some things that seem too good to be true are. Creepy! Good thing you had your wits about you and that you're safe.

Getting the gov. involved won't do anything but hurt the legal folks. Just look at byb who go over the "legal" limit for ownership of animals in their care, or horders, who don't do even legal mandated care… Its going to take education and spay/neuter of any animal who leaves a shelter. It's going to take years...I only hope I see it in my lifetime.

I posted a new thread re 2 of these b's who are having issues in their foster home and need help. I will share it with you all. 2- 3 yr old b's need fosters/homes, from pm bust –------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a pair of the b's who were taken from the puppymill that closed. We really need a smart basenji home to foster and or adopt. Sharron I imagine they will be open to be moved to any near by states. Wilma (brindle) and Wanda (red and white), both three years old and from the SD group, are currently being fostered in central LA. They are very afraid of men and not doing well in their current foster home. If anyone in the southern states, TN or AR would be willing and able to foster them both together, please notify me. I would like to place them in a foster-to-adopt home if available. If you do not live in the area listed but can help with transportation to your location I will consider moving them out of the area. If you are traveling through LA and would not mind a couple furry passengers, let me know. They ride well in crates.
