Male Basenji Wanted-California. Willing to pay for shipping

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Looking for a male basenji between ages of 2 months to 3 years max. Red/white or brindle coat preferably. If it isn't a puppy then crate trained and house broken is a must. Looking for a hiking companion that doesn't mind long car rides. I have a cat so they must at the very least tolerate eachother. Although I do not have children or other dogs right now I want to keep my options open for the future, so if it's an adult a well-socialized dog would be great. I'm open to a bit of a project, such as nervous dogs or abused dogs because my fiance has worked with them one-on-one at rescues in the past. We would prefer a purebred. I am located in southern California just thirty minutes east of Los Angeles.

The only place I know in the UK that actually requests copies of health certificates from breeders is www.champdogs.co.uk I am sure if there are other sites and or places someone will be quick to correct me, but this is the only one I know. Hope that helps.

@hyacinthe Have you found a Besenji? I have a 5-month old male Besenji that I need to re-home.

I think that many adopters would pay for the cost. And add to that if it is a situation that a person has contacted BRAT to give up the dog and he/she is not tested then they should be required to put up that fee. I think that BRAT does an excellent job in most respects, however this is one point that I really disagree with not testing. I am not sure that they would agree to test even if people covered the cost

It isn't that they are necessarily outside dogs…they are just incredibly "barky" dogs so they get sent outside a lot. Any and ever time anyone is out in our backyard, their dog barks and barks and bark for-ev-er until we go inside. Those dogs may drive us crazy, but they are still animals and we still feel bad for them :(

Thanks Pat. I hope it will do some good somewhere. After I posted it, I said to myself, "holy crap, I wrote a book"

You could also check with some of the breeders in So. Cal, they might have a "x" show dog that they are looking to place or a return pup….. you can find breeders at www.basenji.org and then go to the breeder directory…..
