    Looking for a male basenji between ages of 2 months to 3 years max. Red/white or brindle coat preferably. If it isn't a puppy then crate trained and house broken is a must. Looking for a hiking companion that doesn't mind long car rides. I have a cat so they must at the very least tolerate eachother. Although I do not have children or other dogs right now I want to keep my options open for the future, so if it's an adult a well-socialized dog would be great. I'm open to a bit of a project, such as nervous dogs or abused dogs because my fiance has worked with them one-on-one at rescues in the past. We would prefer a purebred. I am located in southern California just thirty minutes east of Los Angeles.

    Only in a negative sense. There are none available. All breeders have lists spilling over to next year. But email me privately and I will send you a list of Breed Club Secretaries. If you get in quick, you will be my 184th enquiry since lockdown and I haven't bred for 10 years or more. No - you are too late already, 2 more in this morning. . . so you might make it to 186th on my list.

    The only purebred available through Karen at Medfly right now is a tri female. Karen has retired from active rescue. The website has not been updated in a few years and the linked email address no longer works.     Where are you located? I have several breeders to recommend in the midwest! In the meantime, checking the BCOA list as Tanza suggested is a good place to start. Be warned though, puppies are being born this time of the year and many breeders have waiting lists!

    Where are you located? There are actually a lot of options. Sadly, as of late, not a lot of basenjis being posted to BRAT. There are other rescues, including a great rescue for basenjis in Florida and California. Also, if you can't find a suitable rescue, please consider young and adults from breeders that they have decided don't fit their breeding plan. They also need and make great pets.
