    I just lost my best friend my male Basenji that has lived with me for over 15 years. He was a rescue and had some trauma before I got him. He did not ride in cars, could not crate him, had no tolerance for anyone touching his paws awoke grouchy, and other typical bad Basenji traits but I loved him regardless. I am in my 50's live in my own home, work from home as a travel agent and have no other animals. I know a lot about Basenjis and they are the only breed for me. I fed him an organic diet that consisted of grains, fresh veggies, and daily cooked meats. He walked 2 to 3 times a day for exercise and sleep in my bed, under the covers. I live in upstate NY, in the country and would love to share my own with another B as soon as possible. Thanks Glenn

I've never been there, and I can't imagine a bus driver letting me onboard with my pup (unless it was a service animal), so... had to ask.

    Are you saying he's breeding brother to sister, or just remarking he has them? Don't put all your eggs in one basket... bitches miscarry, have one pup, lots of things. As for whelping, I thought you said breeding and had to reread. The southern hemisphere is about 6 mos later for estrus. The below paper, I wonder if they followed up to see if basenjis are losing seasonal cycles. For the most part, estrus occurs within the months of September and October for Basenjis living in the Northern Hemisphere. Breeders have also noticed a second estrus sometimes occurs around March or April. In England many Basenjis have a second estrus (Burns, 1952). This has created some concern that the Basenji is losing its annual cycle since leaving Africa.     Where are you located? I have several breeders to recommend in the midwest! In the meantime, checking the BCOA list as Tanza suggested is a good place to start. Be warned though, puppies are being born this time of the year and many breeders have waiting lists!

    I think they're trying to look legit! Knowing that most "ethical" breeders ask a good amount for our dogs (course mind you we have a lot of money stuck into our dogs prior to the "sale" price). And the fact that we're not into dogs to make money.
