My Mother has a 12 yr. old Blk&Wht Female Basenji named Lady Kat. She is in good health, but developing cataract and arthritis in her right hind leg. She is fairly mild tempered, but does better alone away from other dogs and children. She can be very alpha female. I have just moved my new family in with my mother, and she cannot for the life of her manage to get along with anyone. With a small child in the house, I feel like finding her a better home where she would be more comfortable and receive the attention she needs is the best option. Please contact me through e-mail.

  • This is an add, not a member posting, so I will just say…..Gosh, this person has moved her new family in with her mother, and now is getting rid of her mother's dog. Nice.

  • This is just down right wrong! This person is really inconsiderate!! Go take your new family and find your own home and let your Mother have her space and her B! I don't want to think of the stress on that poor older Basenji. This person could work to be accommodating to her Mother and the Basenji. Her Mother should not let this happen and stand her ground and say "no way"!! I don't get it.

  • As much as I hate to see a dog having to be rehomed…we don't know the whole story. Maybe the family has moved in with the mother because the mother wanted them to move in for her assistance.....there could be health problems or in this economy there may be financial reasons.
The ideal scenario would be to get the dog the medical attention it needs and have an animal behaviorist assist.
I just hope the dog finds someone to love her for the rest of her days.

  • I agree with yodel4me, because we don't know the situation. I noticed the dogs name is "Lady Kat", which to me sounds like something you'd put on AKC papers… does anyone know this girl?

(In a way to lighten up this string, when I first read this list, I thought that the MOTHER was developing cataracts and arthritis.... kind of like the Panda that "eats, shoots, and leaves", versus "eats shoots and leaves"? :))

And I, too, hope that this girl finds someone to love her for the rest of her days. :)

  • I sent to brat but it makes me queasy. Wonder if the mother even knows what she is doing? Sigh. Medical care, crates and gates… how hard is that?

  • I think she pretty much stated the situation, "she cannot for the life of her manage to get along with anyone. With a small child in the house, I feel like finding her a better home where she would be more comfortable and receive the attention she needs is the best option". I wonder if the mother got her from a breeder that could be contacted for help?

  • Sigh, sad all around this post. We are getting so many of them lately.

  • I emailed her and gave her the BRAT info and asked if her mother got Lady Kat from a breeder and if yes to contact the them for help.

  • Houston

I sure hope this poor little 12 yr old find her place in the world..whether that is with her current owner or with a new caring family. Thanks Dan for contacting her with the BRAT info.

Who can't get along with anyone…the mother? This almost sounds like the person is interested in rehoming the mom....

LOL, it does read that way…:D

  • I can't get my mind around this advert but of course the background circumstances might be not quite as the advert sounds. I have to hope not as it's terrible to think that the person wants to home a 12 year old Basenji who is not even hers just because she doesn't (yet) get allong with a child.

Advertised as an African dog! Owners did not know what type of dog they were buying. This is near Amish country-only 25 miles away from Lancaster and I wonder if they bought her from a local breeder. Has anyone contacted them to find out any additional information like registration, breeder, etc.? Jennifer

It's a good thing I don't live anywhere in the US. I would have a house FULL of rescued B's!!…..and they would probably all stay with me too....

Well I understand it wasn't a good idea to use sarcasm… Robyn has adults she is trying to place, a new litter on the way, and finding homes right now is a hot button. I should have spelled it out not depended on anyone to get it. And I would sure hate someone new here to think I SERIOUSLY think the craigslist dogs are an option over legit rescues and responsible breeders.
