Great news and Congrats!
Jennifer
Happy birthday to the Grandes.
Since you posted about your babies on this forum I've purchased 'The Portuguese Podengo' by Vitor Veiga. It's very interesting and informative. Do you know of any other specialised books on the breed?
The small Podengos have become even more popular here in the UK and they are now much more standardised but we still (as far as I'm able to ascertain) don't have the Medio or the Grandes over here.
Happy to help you out in England. Yes you do have quite a supply of Pequenos there but from what I can see in show photos - getting a little too big. I understand that happens because in the UK you don't measure any breed - but it would be too bad if they got bigger than their purpose.
Let me know when you want to start on the bigs- LOL
re: Basenji Pharoh mix - The primitive dogs of the Mediteranian region have many similarities. I would guess that there are common ancestors for Pharoh, Caanan Dog, Ibizan, Podengo, etc etc. Given the transport patterns of the Phonecians - I'm sure there are common ancestors.
The stud book we have is only documented to 1928 although we know they were hunting long before - the smaller size Pequeno smooth were the ratters on the Explorer ships.

They're great dogs! Thanks for that piece of information.
Thanks for the pix Petra - he has grown to be a handome boy!
Your welcome Diana, we are just so happy to have him. Yes, he is handsome for sure. Lots of interest when I bring him out of the woodwork..people just can not stop ohh-ing and ahh-ing over him and of course..he loves that.
Here are some pictures of him sitting and waiting ever so patiently for his slice of carrot cake, he even tried high fiving it..
Waiting…
High fiving…
waiting some more..
finally a taste..
ps again, the other dogs got a taste too…
wow one year allready! congrats!
they are all so pretty!
Ah, how I wish I was 15 years younger - I'd love one!! In the meantime I can only drool (figuratively) over the pictures of yours!!
Yes some of the Pequenos here are rather on the big side but without measuring in the ring it can only be a guess. Personally when I judge (Basenjis only) I know exactly where on my leg is the maximium height, I think I would do the same if I did judge any breeds that had more than one size.

I would love to see a new rule that judges should have the matrix system tattoed on their legs hahahaha
What a good idea!!!! Perhaps in their brains might be better!!!!!!
Mozes looks stunning! What a handsome boy! A belated happy Birthday to him and his brothers and sisters
Thank you Janneke..we think he is stunning too.
