  • Welcome to the forum, Q is lovely, thanks for the pics

  • Helena like you i wish there were more Basenji get togethers in the UK. Like you say if you dont show there is nothing. This forum is invaluable for advice and friendship.

  • Double post, sorrry

  • Welcome from another Wisconsinite. Q is a a great looking b/w. I have to agree with the like chips you just can't stop at one.;)

  • @Patty:

Welcome from the UK. What a pretty girl Q is.

You are all so lucky that you have Basenji clubs where you can meet up regularly. It must be a great comfort for newer owners too, toget plenty of advice.

In the UK we only have 3 Basenji clubs and they are all mainly concerned with showing. Their meetings 2 - 3 times a year are at venues well over 100 miles from us. There is very rarely anything apart from the shows and so others who don't show have very little opportunity to socialise and get to know each other. Thart's what makes this forum so interesting.

100 miles would be nice! I'm driving about 150 miles just to eat lunch with our club this weekend. I'm a bit away from the nexus of basenji activity around Chicago so I usually have to drive about 3-4 h at least to do anything. But it's worth it.

  • You've heard the joke about one difference between Brits and Americans?

Americans think 100 years is a long time, and Brits think 100 miles is a long way. :)

My friend Jane told me this joke when I was trying to get her to drive 3 hours from London to Wales on a whim, and it made her very nervous.

In my case 3-4 hours would be nice. Here where I live it is 2.5 hrs to Liyah's breeders and then another 6-9 hours to anywhere there was a major (NY - PA) last year. I'd LOVE 3-4 hrs. :D:D:D

    LOL - that is good!

Yeah, I hear you. For majors it's a different story. Unless I'm really lucky at the two regional specialities (which I'm pretty fortunate to have easy access to) every other major will be a 6+ drive. Lure coursing will probably be worse!

@ErinElisabeth: Yeah, I'm not sure about the dad… And yes, we had tested for fanconi awhile ago. Hi I got a beautiful Red and White girl from Glenn at Sundance also. We also live in Michigan. How is your Jack doing? My girl Kobi, is awesome. I did not meet Jack's mom when we picked up Kobi, but I met Black and White Harley, he was an awesome Basenji. Thats your Jack's dad right? Christine

@jinxed_1980: He doesn't like water… do you think nailing him with a water gun or spray bottle would be too mean? Never had a beggar b4 need help lol 90% of basenjis don't like water LOL and many of us use the spray/squirt bottles as training tools. These are considered non evasive training means and if perfectly harmless means. Best to give a verbal correction first of "AT AT" (yes right now he will ignore you) then squirt with the "AT AT", then he'll figure it out that you can just say the "AT AT" and if he ignores you like mine you should only have to just pick up the squirt bottle and he'll stop the naughty behavior. You can use the squirt bottle for just about any naughty behavior too other than begging, but try not to over use, try to use it more as you re-directive means after he is not working with alternate training techniques
