Termites for 2 weeks!

Basenji Talk
  • Thank God it is Saturday!

I am sitting here 8:15am watching my Teevo'd American Idol and the house is quiet. Caesar (my red b boy- 6yrs) and Cairo (brindle b boy - 11 weeks) are both curled up in their basenji balls and are sleeping. My cat is slinking around it the quiet waiting to be pounced by the boys.

Cairo, my puppy, is curled up in my arms sleeping after giving me my daily dose of kisses.

Caesar over on the couch is probably like me (notice i am awake super early on sat), trying to catch up on zzz's while the young termite is asleep. Caesar is my dual parent. When I am worn out he takes over. It's amazing, he comes out in the morning, sleepy like me, but there to help occupy the little man during his morning basenji 500s.

It is so funny, the moment he wakes he becomes a crazed oral fiend. Touching everything with his chompers! He is like a little termite the entire time he is awake. Caesar has little scabs on his neck! Found them yesterday. Cairo is chewing on him during play and his teeth are like little knives!! LOL….

Oh wowez me! It is so tough having a cute cuddly puppy! LOL....

He has plenty of chew towys and teething items, it is just way right now! I would say the best chewing item for him right now is an old leather belt.

I forgot that the puppy stage was all teeth!

  • Where are the photos??????

  • I will post some today from work.

Cairo has definately hit a growth spurt. He no longer looks like a roley poley puppy. His rib cage is larger than his belly and his nose isnt so rounded.

He is working on his 12th week this week I think?

  • here are a few pics of Caesar (red boy) and Cairo (brindle pup) at work with me. They are preparing for their naps….

  • cell phone quality photos,LOL sorry…also before my first cup of coffee

  • Ceasar has the BEST wrinkles!! Two great looking dogs, for sure.

  • Yeah, those are wrinkles that say," mom i am tired of Cairo chewing on me".

Caesar has little scabs on his neck from Cairo chew playing on him, and Caesar is so patient with him!!

We made the mistake of getting a cheap pen with horizontal wiring ($35). Then we got this as recommended by Michelle Lennon ($99). He can't get out of it, though for several weeks he could squeeze through. At 13 weeks, he's too big for that now. Regalo 192-Inch Super Wide Adjustable Baby Gate and Play Yard, 4-In-1, Bonus Kit, Includes 4 Pack of Wall Mounts Regato 192" gate I also recommend her "Dream Dog" course. I trained 9 years ago with a local pro, but this is more detailed and better organized. Takes a month for a person to get through the course, worth every penny. She also offers a lot of free content, and if you go to the "pro" level for another $75 per month, one can access three weekly zoom meetings with her and co. and get questions answered 24/7 via their facebook interface. For what one gets, it's a real bargain. I used it for a month and found it very helpful. How to Train a Dream Dog To be sure, I don't agree on every detail. For example, I do no-leash walks in woods; they don't recommend that. Also, her course is not really designed to train an active "outdoor" dog, but more for an "indoor" dog. She opposes electric fences and doggy doors. I've had great experiences for 9 years with both and will continue to use them (started electric fence training last week and making good progress). But otherwise, her course lays out solid foundation work. She trains you to be a puppy trainer and provides all the real-time help you could need. Happy training!

Or take them both, and be relaxed about it all. The less anxiety in you, the calmer they will be.

Good luck on getting a picture when she is still, if she is anything like our 2 she won't be still very muvh. Our Bitty does this thing, when she comes up on the bed at bedtime she will flop down facing directly away from us and then bend her head back mover her shoulder to look at us.

Yes,,,,I know I need to change my name,,,,,,,thank goodness the "kids" havent seen it yet or they may think I only love two of the three of them,,,,,ha ha. Also, we have thought about fostering a BRAT dog. I am a teacher so I have the summers free. We decided to wait until after the spring though to sign up because my son is a senior and I am afraid the spring will be to crazy to try to help a BRAT dog that may have some issues. However, we would be open to the transporting. BTW , Senji, we are going to the Northwest part of IL (about 25 miles from Iowa) soooooooooooooo if you want us to make Czar our first transport that can be arranged!!! :)
