LOST DOG!!!! Dec. 26, 2006, my family was traveling along I-20 Westbound in Vicksburg, MS and we were in a car wreck. Luckily, my husband and I were okay. We had our 3 dogs with us in the car, and 1 of them, Daisy, ran away from the wreck scene. We have been looking for her ever since, but this has been hard for us to do since we live 400 miles away from where the wreck happened. She has been seen many times in Vicksburg by mile marker 6 through 11. She's been hanging out by the rest area, truck weigh stations, and the old cross-over roads. She's also been seen on Hwy 80. Daisy is extremely scared due to the wreck and has shown to be afraid of people, as she typically runs and hides whenever someone spots her. If you see her, please let her come to you!!!! If you have any information about her, please don't hesitate to contact me! We really want our Daisy back!

Would be interesting to hear of any updates have they found Daisy??

  • I don't think they've found her. They put her on the dogster page as of February 13th… :( Sad!

  • I've talked to the owner. They've driven from Tx back to their crash site at least 2 or 3 times. No luck yet.

The local law enforcement has tried hard, but were not basenji savy enough to get close enough to her.

They're hoping that she's found a new family.

  • Fingers and paws crossed for Daisy - her people must be a worried mess. How sad.

  • They had a sighting yesterday, and they believe that the dog has moved away from the interstate, and into the residential area of Vicksburg. She was seen with a pack last week, but was alone yesterday. They're hoping that since she's in the city now animal control will be more involved.

If the dogs are having similar symptoms as in the previous years, they need to be treated ASAP! It is my understanding that many are developing the acquired Fanconi Syndrome and need to be put on the protocol. Many vets though do not have the equipment to do the venous blood gas test and get an accurate diagnosis. Emergency vets should have the equipment. Do not buy any dog treats that come from China and if the package does not state where it is from then do not buy it! Jennifer

Hollie will hide her treats and her dog food. Her favorite hiding place is under MY pillow in the bed. She has tried to hide her entire food bowl by pushing one of her plush toys with her nose in an attempt to get the toy on top of her food bowl. Why doesn't she just use her mouth to pick it up and place it on the bowl? Silly dog!

Yes I agree Pat, Fort Funston could get very crowded and dangerous for smaller dogs as packs of bigger dogs playing could cause injury. My 2 Basenjis were very good and stayed pretty close to me and got used to the crowds. The only problem I had there was with this lady who had an older Tri color female Basenji. It would bite my blk/wht, Nika who was 1-1/2 on the butt. A few times of that and I stayed way away from her. The problem is Nika was a very playful girl and never did anything like that. A few times of getting nipped on the butt started her doing it to other dogs and Basenjis. A Basenji would want to play and Nika would chase and give a nip and the the other dog would get mad and a fight would occur. Nobody would ever get hurt thankfully. It was rare that it would happen as I took them there for 9 years, mostly on the weekend without problem. We had a lot of fun and people loved the Basenjis! Ringo, the red/wht was a very entertaining clown when we'd go down to the beach.
