    She is definitely not a puppy mill nor do I think she's intentionally been irresponsible. I simply think she's unfamiliar with the standards that are expected from the BCOA. A lack of due dilligence is certainly not the best excuse for a breeder to have but it's better to learn late than never.

    Twenty years ago, before the internet, people had an excuse. I really don't think there is any excuse today for not doing basic research and knowing better. There really isn't. But hopefully you can nudge her to step up and do better.

    Hi everyone! New Basenji owner here from Melbourne, Australia. I know this topic is a couple of months old but I thought I'd just add my experience for anyone else needing help with puppy biting. My wife and I had been having mouthing/biting trouble with our (now) 12-week old pup for the last week. The behavior has improved almost instantly by following the advice in this video. She's still pretty mouthy but it doesn't escalate the way it did before when we'd try and stop her from doing it/yelping/saying '"NO". I think everything we were doing was just turning it into the funnest game ever for her! https://youtu.be/bd1Q56Mfp4M

    Im not sure what DEFRA is but I read somewhere that the quarantine and all that had been lifted in great Britain… Not sure.. Anyway, I'm not sure if they do.. But dogs are imported into Brittain all the time, especially show dogs, I don't think it would be tool difficult. cheers happy New Year!

    Rojer, wth? fipronil and methoprene (the ingredients in FRONTLINE, btw) are to kill fleas, it is not a FOOD for dogs and does not help hair and nourish the bones of the dog.

    My Basenji doesn't have slaves, he has staff! :) And he lets us know when our work isn't up to snuff.

    The more exercise you can give the dog, the better she will be. Walk her at least an hr 2 times a day… A basic obedience class is also required to help her learn her manners. Good luck.

    Sophie is one who definately thinks that the standard reads "a goof with strangers". She loves meeting and greeting people and dogs though she has learned how to be dog appropriate and is not a push over. She wags her tail so much it is no wonder is is only a loose single curl, how could it be anything else with it in constant motion. We do a lot to socialize all of our pups so they are outgoing and confident but there is a definate distinction between some of our pups who would probably be considered "Aloof" though they are friendly and like attention from strangers, they always make you feel like you are attending court for royalty and Sophie whose dream job would probably be a greeter for WalMart.
