Hopefully Babies for Langarni Basenjis.

  • Thanks guys, I keep looking at her, and my heart skips a beat, and I am wondering if we have done the right thing :-)

Im sure in a day or two I will be excited all over again :).

  • @saba:

We have just got back from the Vets, after having Ochre U/S, and the Vet was able to palpate 3 and the U/S showed 2-3… Yaaaaay :) :) :)

Im VERY excited, but now its sunk in, Im feeling like a newbie all over again. Its been nearly 7 years since our last litter, (and they were ACD's), so I am off to do some bigtime swatting :D :D :D...

    Congrats - how exciting!!:D

When Ruby was bred 2 years ago, her u/s showed 3 and the vet could palpate 3, but she had 6! The funny thing was her breeder hoped for at least 4, I had a dream she had 5 - and then she had 6. :D

The US for Bella showed 2…and there were four! Seems you can safely double the estimate based on US results ;)

  • Andrea - LOL, too funny. Saba, how many are you hoping for?

  • And with the Ultrasound many years ago with Maggii, show 3, she had 6… Mickii, they could not find any... she had 4!!! however the specialist these days are much better with the Ultrasound.

That said, I still opt for xrays at 58 to 60 days for hopefully an exact count!

  • Congrats Jennie, so exciting.
I know how exilerating it must be to know that your little girl has a tummy full of even smaller little girls and boys.
    When are they due?
I know Kylie is expecting litters as well…been talking to her, lots..

  • Rally's first ultrasound showed 4 and she had 4. Her second had 4 and she had 4 but we lost one because it had been stuck and the stress was too much for it. TC's ultrasound showed 4 heartbeats and one sac with no heartbeat, she had 4 pups and appears to have resorbed a 5th. Rio's ultrasound showed 1 heartbeat and 1 empty sac so we think she resorbed one also. My vets have said the most common reason in their opinion for miscounting is that the bitch is carrying them very high so they are tucked under the rib cage where they can't see or getting "lost" as they count and not knowing which horn they are in.

I also x-ray to check the count and the size. L'Ox was massive compared to what my other puppies have been and I am glad I knew that ahead of time.

I start to get pretty anxious after the ultrasound. Happy that we are expecting puppies but worried about having everything in place, especially emergency care if needed. I don't think I really relax until the pups eyes are open and they have their feet under them but I am a worrier.

  • Congratulations, bet you can't wait :)

That right there is the reason why buying from a good breeder is essential! I don't think BYBs come anywhere close to having these emotions, these feelings about their bitches and the upcoming puppies. So, to those who fret and worry, I salute you.

Well I would be very happy with 5, thats the number I have had in my mind from the day she came back from Sunny :)

I would be ok with her doubling the number on the U/S too, just like a few of your American dogs, too.

(Quickly scurries off to check if she has any American dogs in her pedigree :D:D:D) !!!

    Tanza,

I really didnt feel very reassured about the Vet who did the U/S at all. I clearly got the impression that she was the best of whoever was working there yesterday :)… Im not really putting them down, as they did explain to me I could get one of the Vets to do it, but it would be only a confirmation only, (unless I really wanted to get an ultrasonographer to actually do it, and double the cost), as none of the Vets there were very confident with doing U/S ;). All I really wanted was to have confirmation, not numbers, but the Vet doing it was quite convinced there was 3, but not feeling 100%, she conservatively said 2-3...

Oooh, Basenjimamma, please do tell ???

I just got a text from Kylie this am, saying that she thinks Electra is about to get going… Electra is the gorgeous mum of Ochre and Vanda :)... Impatiently waiting for her text to let me know that things are starting...

    Due 26th-ish of June...

I was wondering about the necessity of doing an x-ray, but, I think I have decided it might be a good idea.

Glad Im not the only one who does get a little stressed :). Know exactly what you mean Ivoss :).

  • Thanks everyone else who has wished me good luck. I will keep this thread updated…

I did a quick check on what I might need... EVERYTHING... OMG... I dont even have a whelping box, gave it to a friend for her Belgian Sheps :eek::eek:.

  • I am always suprised when I look through my whelping supplies at how much I need. No matter how well prepared I think I am, I always seem to find I missed something. The good thing is that stocking up and prepping the whelping room gives me an outlet for all that anxiety.

Absolutely I couldnt agree with you more. I have spent the day researching Progesterone levels, and this has helped me a bit today…

Leads me to a question :)...

Does anyone know how I can convert the (?) American ng/ml to the Aussie Nmol/l ??? I had Ochre's prog levels done yesterday, and her result was 152 nmol/l, but the articles I have found talks about ng/ml ???

  • You need the molecular weight of progesterone.

  • (152 nmol/L)(314.46 ng/nmol)(1L/1000mL) = 47.80 ng/ml

    Jennie.
Yes, I am eagerly awaiting for Electra to go as well. Would love a pup from that litter…we'll see, the only downside is the cost of shipping, it is even more then the pup it self..so maybe not this year..ohhh, I want one though...If I could just fly over there and bring one back in my shirt...that would be ideal..haha.

  • Thanks Ivoss, I think I will go and find a calculator… My maths has never been any good :o...

Basenjimamma, last night Kylie said she thought she would go overnight, but so far, I havent heard from Kylie, so I dont know where she is at... I did text her, but still waiting for a reply :)...

Yep I think you nearly need to be a millionaire to get dogs shipped around the world ;).

One breeder from San Diego (Rancho Penasquitos) retired from their day jobs and moved to Texas; Bob & Terry Reed of Illusion Basenjis. Another San Diego breeder (Spring Valley) passed away almost 2 years ago; Doug Joy of Basenjis of Dune. Not all reputable breeders are visible on the BCOA website. Some don't want their kennels named because they do not breed very often. You should contact the breeder liaison via email for more breeders in California and other nearby states. The local breed club for southern California is The South Coast Basenji Fanciers. They can help you find a local breeder. The quickest way to get in touch with them if through their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SoCalBasenjiFanciers Northern California also has a breed club that you can contact, BCONC. Their Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/norcalbasenjis

@timothyhanselman If on FB, you may want to join BASENJIS in need: Golden Opportunity. There are some adults looking for homes right now. https://www.facebook.com/groups/375245789899780 And as one of the posts advises: "Stay patient. A lot of inexperienced people are buying puppies they are ill prepared for, from greeders who do not take their basenjis back. I suspect in the next 6-8 months we might see/learn of an influx of basenjis needing homes." Alas....

No, I haven't put my name out there as someone looking for a puppy, but she found my personal email from somewhere… I have my FB page restricted, so I don't think it's there, and I've never heard of her before. Just wondered if she was contacting others from here, too. ???

Thank you guys so much for the information. I will definately write it as you said. Maybe he will then stop being so ugly. I know that there is no way he will let me or anyone that knows me have her. All I know is I paid him back for the dog, paid to fly it to them and now I get to be rimmed out on the phone, emails, etc. I just love hearing what an irresponsible breeder I am and how much I abused the dog. It just makes me fighting mad to be accused of such things. I love my dogs so much and they live better than I do it seems… Thanks again, you guys are the best.
