Coursing at the Beach of R?m? (DK)

Show Off Your Dog
  • We visited some friends who spent their hollidays at the isle of Roemoe. They did bring their own "bunny in a suitcase" and we had a little free coursing at the beach. Lots of non-Basenjis and only one little Panda to have fun with all those long legged dogs… http://www.seelenfreund.dk/gallery/index.html#63.0

  • What is the breed? Are they Sloughi? They look like greyhounds but more delicate.

Great photos, looks like everyone had fun!

I think it are Azawakhs.. Another breed high on my list "would like to have in the future" :D

    Great pics Soulmate :)

  • Yes, they are Azawakh and I have to admit, that I am 100% sure, that one of them will join our pack one day! They are soooo Basenji…. ;-) but they do have high protection skills and are quite territorial as well.

But we were also joined by 2 big poodles, 2 Podenco (mixes), 1 maybe Azawakh-mix and of course Vega as a representative for Galgo Espanol. Oh, and I do not want to "hide" the Labrador....

@ Janneke: In case you would like to know more about the various breeders, let me know, I might be able to refer you to somebody who is really into the breed and knows almost all the breeders and their dogs. She is the breed representative in the German Sighthound Assc. and is always very happy to help "Newbies".....

    Regards,
    Esther

  • Great pictures. Yes they are beautiful dogs, very stunning.

  • Fun to see not only great pictures but a breed I'm unfamiliar with. Thanks for the post soulmate.

I used to have a basenji who would chase a plastic bag I tied to a "wand" around the yard. He seemed really in to the "bunny" so I took him to a couple of lure coursing events in central FL. It was wonderful to see the dogs running and so hard to hold my boy back from joining them. At the end of the day, we were able to do a straight out and back run to see how he would do, and he was great. Not long after, 2 guys that I placed a basenji with rigged up a reversing motor and set up a very small "lure course" in their back yard! There were about 12 of us there with basenjis and we let them chase the bunny one or two at a time. It was great fun. You do have to be careful not to run them too young, or too hard without conditioning. My current basenji gets to run like crazy at the dog park (it's huge and everyone is very impressed at his speed and agility) and at the baseball field (when it's not locked up). Slents: I loved your video! Thanks for posting it. I hope you eventually get to attend a lure coursing event in person - it really is something to see!

@Janneke: I've recently heared that the Dutch Basenji Club bought a lure coursing machine. Now they only need to organise some events…... (and find a field etc..) yes they bought one, but have no field , so what is the use of that? they say they are not depending on third parties anymore but that is not truth since they still dont have their own field :D so it is still more easy to train with the allready existing coursingclubs ( like Leek ) p.s.: when can i see all the nice pictures of the coursing that Job made? :-)

Great pics!! Same reason I always get nervous if Shera wants to play with fluffy dogs - she chases the tail and the fur always ends up in her mouth!
