Kidney Stones

Off Topic
  • I had one a few years ago, by far the most painful experience of my life. I went to the emergency room thinking I was dying from an acute pancreatitis attack. The emergency doc said I have good news & bad news. The good news is you are going to live, the bad news is you have the largest kidney stone I have ever seen and the pain is going to make you wish you were dying! It was removed surgically, OUCH, and a stent was put in for 2 weeks to make sure my ureter did not collapse. From that day on I have limited my caffeine intake and drink no less than 8 glasses of water a day. I do not ever want to go through that again.

  • Before all the modern medicines and techniques, my dad suffered with kidney stones. I remember how bad he felt.

    I hope you recover quickly.

  • I gave up caffeine 3 years ago - don't miss it, except for my Dr Pepper! Wish they would make a caffeine free version, I would be their best customer!!

I try to drink lots of water, but right now it's so painful when I 'go' that it makes me not want to drink. I hope I don't have to keep this stent for another week.

  • Sorry Terry,
fortunate to have no experience of this but i do hope the doctor sorts you out on tuesday, it sounds awful

  • Terry, I am sorry to hear about your pain..not fun, I have no experience with kidney stones, but every single female three generations back hae had gallstones in my family, so I guess I am preparing myself for that one day..also very painful..

Ona different note, Dr Pepper does have a caffeine free version, at least here in Texas, regular and diet mind you..just thought I'd mention that..drink it myself on occasion..

    Feel better soon.

  • Kidney stones must be bad my sister in law had four kids and no pain meds She got kidney stones they like to kill her said she would have 4 more kids before she wanted that ever again. She did pass hers said it felt like glass cutting her.

  • Thanks Petra for the Dr Pepper news! I have never seen it here in CA, but since we are moving to TX - hopefully before the end of the month, if my kidneys cooperate - I can get it there!! When my daughter was at Baylor, we even visited the Dr Pepper museum in Waco; lots of fun memorabilia.

BTW, I read that once you have a kidney stone, you have a 70 - 80% chance of them recurring. Wonderful…

    Terry

  • Your welcome.
Hope to hear that your stones are cooperating and that the move went well..

  • OUCH Terry…. hope that you feel better soon!

  • Yippee! At my follow up appt today, we convinced the dr to take out the stent. I think I feel better already…

    Terry

  • Good for you Terry.

  • Glad you're feeling better Terry :)

@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

@Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!
