A friend of ours talked to the woman with the 7 month old female today. The original owner was older, got her from a shelter (as a Jack Russell) and she was just too much energy. The current 'foster' took her to help the original owner, but she has several other dogs, the basenji has already escaped once. She has chickens, etc., and her husband wants her re-homed soon. I saw a (poor quality) photo and she looks pure basenji but has one drop-tipped ear and barks occasionally, she is intact still. No one I know is up for a youngster like this, but we are asking around. If anyone out there is interested,I'll help with transport.

Me too, on letting me know where to send donation or how I can help. I would take some of the dogs in, but geographically that might be hard..
-
I just received an email from A breeder friend that her best friend in San Diego is offering housing and money. They offered quote "temporary housing, money, dog transport - just name it - we are there". The Basenji community is really stepping up to help. Karen and Chuck thank you all!
-
I will try and call Karen's cell and see if they are OK and get info as to where to send donations.

I just spoke with Chuck and they are still at the ranch. The winds have shifted a bit and kept the fire up on the hills. If it changes and they have to leave he will call me. Any donations will help just send to their PO box. He said the house and kennels would be OK in the fire. It's very clear around the place. The smoke would be the problem for the dogs. They thank you all!

If there is anything I can help with, please ask.

So glad to hear this. I talked to them yesterday and it sounded like they had a good escape plan, but this fire is pretty scary–I can see it all the way from my house.
My check, as they say, is in the mail.

Chuck said they have the vehicles with trailers backed up to the house in case they have to leave. He said it's difficult just trying get to the store.
Thanks again to you all on the forum for your help!! You all are great people! -
Hi everyone, I am so touched by the outpouring of your kindness, messages & offers. No new phone updates from Karen or Chuck yet, but I tracked the fires in the Acton area all day yesterday & today with the Forest Service & Reuters. Fires are all over the Acton area, & very close to their ranch. Here's a link to some photos of Acton, CA on Reuters.com:

Hopefully, Karen should surface soon. I'll let you know!
Thank you all! Maxie -
I just talked to Karen–they're okay. I'm so relieved, the fire is not near them and probably won't be.

Karen called me to say they are on high alert, but safe for now. They were told to evacuate, but then waited as big planes showed up and began dropping fire retardent (and are still dropping) on fires heading their way . Bulldozers cut one of the fires off at the ridge. Crates, trucks & trailers are on standby, ready to flee, but for now, unless the fires shift again, their need for emergency evacuation funds are on hold for now. Karen said to thank everyone for your support and will call or email you when this passes. Thank you, Maxie

Hi Rita Jean, Karen said to thank you for your wonderful offers. For now, the fires are diverted away from their ranch, so their need for emergency funds are on hold for now. Your prayers were so helpful. Maxter
