Bailey is too snarky, and a fussy eater

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Is Bailey the one that lived on the street's?

If so my feelings on door would be just what you said door shut I am out gone. Like a little kid your our of my sight and door shut no no let me in.

  • Poor girl. To me it sounds like she is so insecure in her own body, and doesn't know how to handle, it, so she uses anger, fear and contentment in a mixed jumble to make it through her day and life. I think if teh clicker training is working, which it sounds lie it is, great , keep it up, make it fun and most importantly, make her feel as if she has a job in your pack..she will not be moved/dumped again..she is important, but she has to learn to "work" under the same rules the rest of the pack works. In other words, make her to thetraining and work for it..she will thank you in the long run. Dogs, most dogs, like/thrive to be counted on, or reliad on, in my opinion.

  • Well Bailey did not really have it much better a tool shed were the DOOR GOT SHUT. Bailey I am sure hates sheds, doors, backyards without someone being there. Like looking into her past and she really does not want to go back there for sure.

Until you got Bailey she may have never ever seen or know anyone but two people that kept her in a shed.

Did she always have them or did they start after something/some time? Do antihistamines clear the problem?

@Rebel - Full blood workup including full Thyroid panel (full panel no just what the normal vet workup that is not a full thyroid panel)... as they say make sure that he is in good health. Also what are you feeding him? How much total are you feeding a day? Also with reducing food, add veggies to his food to fill his belly... green beans are good to use... I use Cauliflower and Broccoli... Note also that low normal is typically too low for Basenjis.

@serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

To give you an idea of the contrast between Basenjis and Border Collies, my BC once spit out a pill, I said "Blackie" in a disapproving tone, and he picked it up from the floor and swallowed it!

I'd also have him tested for Valley Fever. Although the Dallas-Fort Worth area isn't really within the Valley Fever Map, the map is from 1957 so things could have changed dramatically since then. Although Valley Fever in its initial stages affects the respiratory system, in its disseminated stages, it can affect other organs, including the heart. It's certainly something I'd want ruled out.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about something like that. The house across the street from us sold and we have new neighbors. I wonder if it is him being sensitive to them being there. The house has been empty since Giz game to live with us. Wow, that hadn't occoured to me at all. hmmmm….
