He sure is cute no matter what—but this Basenji website is really good and I have gotten really good advice and really good input from all the people and their dogs...
Another possibility might be Rat Terrier. They do come in brindle, although that colour is out of favour. There is one in my neighbourhood that has a bit of a Basenji look to him, and his tail is very short.......not sure if it's natural or docked.
I am so sorry about your brother. Yes, seems he was meant to be with your family. If you get a chance, record his vocalizations. We really love pictures and videos!
Hopefully most aren't feeding more than tiny amts of cooked turkey and no skin (which many think is the real problem).. pancreatitis is often turkey related!
