  • Welcome and thanks for saving her. We are just around the Sound from you so we hope to see you on the trails someday. More pictures please.

  • Yes, please, more photos!

  • We are on the other side of the water from you. Good luck with the newest member of your family!

  • Hello from Oregon! My bf and I just got our first basenji this year as well, a puppy in February. If you end up lure coursing maybe we will get the chance to meet sometime, or if you ever end up in the Portland area. Good luck with your girl, she's gorgeous!

  • pacificNWbasenji, are you going to the dog show this weekend?
I will be there sat for sure!
    Maybe we can meet ringside.

  • We actually got a chance to get out of town this weekend, visiting family in Boise. I am happy to announce 15 week old Dude has been crated in the back of my 4runner for a 400 mile trip from Portland to Boise with potty breaks every hour and a half and hasnt made a sound! He is normally crated for 5 hours a day weekdays while I work and is quiet without accidents but I am amazed that he has done so well for 7 hours on the road. Cant wait to settle down and cuddle the puppy now :)

  • Hello & welcome from Canada. Nice girl you have & thanks for saving her.

  • @Janneke:

Welcome! She's lovely! I also see some podenco in her..

Thank you! I think she does. At first, i thought she might be mixed with red nose pitbull, because of her eyes and snout. But after looking at some podenco pictures, i think that is what she is mixed with.

This is almost exactly what she looks like, except she is a lot shorter.

  • @wizard:

Nice looking dog - does she have much in the way of face wrinkles? Can't tell exactly from the photo - I think the wrinkles add so much to their expressions.

she doesn't have very many wrinkles on her face, probably lost that feature with her mix. but she definitely makes some cute expressions :D

  • @BDawg:

Welcome! What a cutie!! :) More pics! More pics!

@elbrant That's how all my 8-some learned to catch. If food dropped on the floor - you lost it ! So they all stood on their hind legs and it was like feeding a nest of fledgling sparrows. A gentle toss of the treat and someone caught it !

Most people incorrectly use the terms dominant and dominance with regard to dogs. Here is a good blog post by Dr. Sophia Yin on the topic. http://drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/dominance_in_dogs_is_not_a_personality_trait

@pennypen: We are attending our first event on Friday, Nov 26th in Decatur, TX and am excited to see her run her first practice run and see if she will be able to do a qualifying run. Super geeked! So i hope to meet more basenji owners in the area since every time i do see another i get so excited and Penny just goes nuts over fellow basenjis. I want to go to some lure coursing as well. I live in Austin with a rescue girl that I got from BRAT. :) Welcome to the forums.

I was struck by the fact that your Bernese lived to be 20 years old! Wow! I know they have had concerns with cancer in the breed, and very few of them live that long. How wonderful for you that you got to have her for that long. Terry

Sean, as a new member of the Forum but an old doggy daddy I have had a lot of experience with many breeds. Reading about your requirements for a dog I have to suggest that you consider getting a rescue greyhound, it will be a great companion for when you run and the rest of the time they are very laidback. Basenji's are very intelligent and require a good deal of intellectual stimulation, otherwise they get bored and a bored B is a mischievious B.
