Do females howl?

Basenji Talk
  • Bdawg, I love those short talkie sounds. Katie does those all the time. I especially love the 2:00 minute mark when Lexi throws herself to the floor, just like a toddler in a temper tantrum!!

Ty has always been a yodeler/howler and rapid tail wagger, but he never acquired the shorter "speech patterns". Katie is the mouthier short speech maker, but only yodels as a greeting to immediate family or to remind of a forgotten treat. She also only wags when extremely excited (ie.."look what I just stole" moments)

I live in N.J. U.S.A. & I adopted my male (5 yr. old ) male basenji for $75.00 from a shelter. You can always try there.. much more affordable

Sounds like she is letting you know where she is - Lela really (I mean REALLY) howls when she does not know where we are. When we leave our B's alone, we always tell them we are leaving and when we will be back. They understand. We don't use crates.

@Andrew: As far as diapers go, my breeder recommended this, as basenjis are quick to tear them off and the cost can add up. Buy the smallest size boy's toddler underpants you can find. Cut a hole for the tail. Put a pantyliner in. I bought a 5 pack last year, and since you can custom cut the hole, it stays on a little better. I got the 2T size & had to safety pin it so it wouldn't fall off of Callie, but it was $3 for 5 & well worth it. Thanks so much. I had another friend recommend this as well. Maya still tried to chew them, but it's much easier on the pocket book : )

@AJs: AJ was able to let himself out of his crate when he lived with Calliope…when she was in season. It's the main reason he was snipped. Got caught with his hand in the cookie jar one time too many. :D:D:D Rita Jean, i love his name, the two names sound nice together, i'm glad your having fun. Malaika is wonderful and we love her to bits :) She's getting a bit stroppy though and trying to become dominant, at 17 weeks :eek::eek: We are talking to the trainer and realise she needs careful handling.

well then, gender aside, get a dog you feel comfortable with, I went into a house full of boy dogs and only one girl, my Bindi, who was taking them down and being really playful but getting her point across, like have only older brothers to look up to, the younger sister will try her hardest to be as big and bad as her older brothers :3 I think it's cute and endearing <3 I think that's why I liked Bindi, she's got spunk! ~Kat
