Lovely picture and they're so patient. I have the same problem when I pick up my camera!
Waiting for the new pup!

In the United States, responsible breeders do remove dew claws. That is not a judgemental statement, it is a statement decribing how things are done here.
Before breeding my first litter, I talked with many breeders about breeding practices including the removal of dew claws. The ones I spoke with have been breeding a long time and had experience with dogs that had them and those that had them removed and their overwhelming response was that they felt it was the responsible thing to remove them after having seen the damage done when one is ripped out if caught on something. Most of the situations given were run of the mill, out in the backyard, normal play type situations so it is not just for dogs that are active in performance. But everyone single one said it only took seeing one dog rip a dewclaw and have it hanging by a thread to convince them that it was absolutely the right thing to do to remove them at a couple of days old when it is not major surgery to remove.

Tillo was tha best!! At the breeder the pups already 'used' newspapers! So.. he peed in the house… twice? The first night he was with us, he was in his crate, with the door open. After a couple of hours sleep I heared something.. It was Tillo. He got up, walked in the middle of night to the other end of the room to pee... ON THE NEWSPAPER!! Aah.. so proud, so proud..
It is all about training right off the bat. I'm sure the puppy will be fine. Mya was almost completely trained when we brought her home. The only accidents she had was when it was raining. Imagine that!! :p

Momofmya asked about dew claws… many answered... I was not one to say anything about weight other then to disagree about Basenji prone to gaining weight....
I didn't ask about dew claws. I didn't say anyone was "picking" on my breeders. You're putting words into my mouth. I said that I simply put a picture of Mya up on the site - not to start a drama club - but to show her off a bit. I also said that I didn't put it up for opinions on dew claws, fanconi, weight issues, and thyroid problems. I didn't ask for opinions. But I sure as heck got them!!!!!

I do dew claws and so do all the responsible breeders that I know in California.
Okay, okay. You're the bomb!!
-
Are you saying that breeders that do not remove dew claws are irresponsible??
This was your post? And yes you are correct, you responded to another poster asking you about the dew claws on your girl…

I'm not here for the drama. I'll just let you and whoever else wants to bash my dog have at it!!!! Thank you.

In the Netherlands it's no longer allowed to dock tails.. Don't know if that's also the case in the US? But there was a 'good' reason to dock.. but now it seems that that reason wasn't that good..
I think it's the same with dew claws.. I don't know how often it happens in the Netherlands that a dew claw causes problems.. but probably not often enough to change the rule of not clipping them..Yes tail docking and ears are still done in the US… but I never heard that reason for tails? While I do agree on doing dew claws, I don't agree with tail docking or doing ears

(sorry.. but that's just funny ;))
That's what happens when I get backed up against a wall. I'm like a wild Basenji. Grrrrr….
-
Mya is not overweight. I'm sure it is the angle and the lighting. I am a responsible owner and Mya is well taken care of. Since I own a basenji now I'm knowledgeable enough to ask the appropriate questions of the breeder. I did not post this picture for everyone to point and frown. I most certainly did not post for anyone's disapproval of my breeders either.
My feelings are hurt and I'm not exactly clear on what to think of some of the perfectly opinionated people on this site.
In your post here you did post about people disapproving of Mya's breeder… No one was bashing Mya and I didn't say anything about her being overweight... very rarely can you tell that kind of thing from a picture unless they are extemely overweight.. and I don't/didn't think that Mya was overweight at all.

I think it is not really about who said what.. but about the fact that 75 % of the reaction in this "show off your dog'' thread are about: watch out for this disease.. oh and this one….
Why can't we all just say: aaaaah, lovely photo.. etc etc.. or just say nothing.. and talk about Fanconi in other threads..
-
Hopefully they have been (the sire and dam) DNA tested for Fanconi
Here, you're the 4th poster on Mya's pic. And this was your comment. Are you always this cynical?? I see front the amount of comments you've left over the last four years that you definately have opinions and yours seem to be right.
I'm definately in the wrong here. I apologize for any bad feeling this has caused. I'll go crawl in my hole now and cry.
THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!

Yes, when it concerns the health of the breed I am synical totally. Should be something that anyone breeding has/is doing. I have never seen that the breeders that Mya came from have DNA tested for Fanconi? Should not be a secret… considering the results are on a public database. Who people get a puppy from is their own business for sure... however to not have testing done is sad, for the people getting a pup... and the pup itself. And if the "harping" helps one person, one Basenji... it is worth it.
I don't think you are in the wrong...

Okay…tell me who Mya's breeder is since you seem to know that the dam and sire have not been tested. Show me the secret. Show me how you know who they are and where you got your information from. Because I have all of the information and you seem to too. I know you didn't get it from me.

Huh? I never said that I knew who Mya's breeder is you never have posted that, however I don't know why it would be such a secret? I asked if the Sire and Dam were tested? And if they were, they would be on the OFA site… I would think that people would be proud of their pups breeder and share who they are...
I would image I could figure it out, if I really want to know... but again, I don't care who buys what from who.. I don't recommend breeders other then to refer people to the BCOA site/members...
