It's Me or the Dog, TV looking for dogs

Off Topic
  • Hi-

I’m casting a new show for Animal Planet called IT’S ME OR THE DOG hosted by UK dog trainer Victoria Stilwell. And we are looking for couples or families who have adopted dogs that have behavioral problems that Victoria can help them solve.

Please – if some of your families are having a tough time with their dogs’ behavioral issues, feel free to forward this email to them.

    Many thanks,

    Trisha Reece

  • I have found her shows pretty much right on…. she is a good trainer... with the exception that she does come from Europe and they don't believe in Spay/Neuter unless in extreme cases... unlike the US that prefer spay/neuter...

  • I also like the way she does things.
Maybe we will see someone who needs help with b's get on her show.
IMO, better than Dog Whisper…but he has also saved dogs who would be put down...so..who's to say??

Lets not get into a debate on the Dog Whisper… it has really gotten nasty in the past.... for the record.. I do not support his training methods..

  • We like watching both shows, and take all with a grain of salt…...it is TV, so you are only seeing what they want you to see...sometimes I see something that helps me in training Jack, sometimes I wholeheartedly disagree with what they have to say. The only thing that is constant is that Jack likes to watch the other dogs.

  • I LOVE It's Me Or The Dog!!! She is awesome. She really lays down the law for people. Especially when the family pack order is all out of whack, which is often.

They are adorable :) Watson always gets identified as some sort of terrier. He has been a rat terrier and a toy fox terrier…

It seems to me there are a couple of issues here. I don't think a shelter wants just any JoeBloe walking in one day to say "hey I'd like to help by walking your dogs". The shelter needs to know something about its volunteers though a criminal check might be a bit much. If someone has been volunteering at a shelter for some time so the staff knows them and now new policies are being put into effect, then the shelter should have some sort of informational meeting/handout for all its volunteers so they know what and why. And even when volunteers have been accepted, some mini-training should be included for handling dogs. Many shelter dogs have been abused so I wouldn't want a volunteer who grew up under the "old" system of training with spanking and collar yerking now handling a special needs dog. Actual certification for dog walkers - no - the government intrudes enough.

My King Charles Spaniel was 16 when he died and I still think he left way too soon. He was really good dog. Thanks for posting that.

@Maya: If you're living in Holland, you need a Friesian!!! :D I have the most wonderful friesian, her temperment is amazing. She's not even 3 yet but she is just so sweet and gentle!! But, do keep us updated. I've had horses since i was 3 and they are a huge part of my life. I couldnt be without them even though im not as involved in the horse world as i once was!! P.S. I have some photos from a show over here in the UK with shires in their traditional plaits and tack if anyone is interested in seeing them. Its just amazing!! Yes!! I love to see the pictures!!! I like the Friesian horses but it's not a breed wich can used for lots of things, they are to special i think :D I like the Friesian for shows and as a barouche horse (is it a good word?) I once ride a Friesian and it's different with riding a normal or western horse. They make larger steps and it's very comfortable riding! A friend of us breeds the Friesian :D @moetmum: That sounds exciting, hope it all goes to plan. Our neighbouring farmer used to breed shire horses, they don't breed now but still have loads of horses. They go to loads of shows, they were sponsored by a local brewery. The horses are fascinated by the basenjis, and always want to come and have a look! the b's aren't keen when they snort at them though. I have never heard of a horse milking farm before!! Wow!!! If it was a little bit near Holland, I really would come over to met you and take a look at the shires next door :D:D We're don't going to live in Holland :D In Germany they have also some very nice breeds Hannoveraan, holsteiner (i don't know the english names…0
