    Went to the park near our house today, where they are doing some "improvements". We were unaware of the work that's been done, so we were walking our usual lap around the fence line & came upon an area that is under construction. Basically a bunch of bushes were town up from the banks of a creek bed, turning the area into a mud pit with a stagnant muddy water trench running down the middle. Lola ran straight up to the edge, kersplooshed right in, and then hopped out the other side. Booger jumped over the trench. All of the white on Lola was completely covered in dark brown mud that perfectly matched her brindle & made her look like a completely black dog. It was actually really freaky looking to see her with no white. She just had to run & try to play with Booger & paint him with mud in the process. We walked another lap to dry off, and most of the mud came off before we got to the car. They were both still pretty dirty when we got home, and we didn't have time to bathe them before we left for work.
    We got home tonight & they're both PERFECTLY clean. Very white white & beautiful soft fur. Andrew asked me if I had given them a bath because they seem so soft & clean. They must have cleaned each other. Awesome!

    Introduce a cat to 2 adult basenjis

    You're doing a great job introducing the cat to the basenjis, I would continue to do what you're doing, but don't leave them alone just yet. I would keep them in different rooms while you are away. Also, as another person said, the cat and the bird will be more of a challenge, since the cat is more likely to hunt the bird. Keep the supervision going with all three species. My basenjis always wanted to chase cats they saw outside, but did not chase the cats we had, because they had been socialized and they thought of the cats as part of the pack.     @krunzer: Oh welcome to you and your B baby! Where in Canada are you? If you have a puppy and a Cat I am hoping that with the puppy growing up with the kitty that all will be well. Would love to see pics of your B if you can post some! To answer your question, I am from Montreal! To update on my basenji baby and my cat, all is actually going better than expected!!! I am so happy! My cat sometimes even runs after him and they play fight. And when he bites just a little too hard, she smacks him. But I don't think she takes out her claws, because he doesn't yelp or cry when she does it. All in all, after all the fear I had about them not getting along is working out!!! I am really happy!!!     We have two cats and two Basenji?s, but the basenji?s grew up with the oldest cat. They live togehter as a family, but the first meeting between Buana (oldest Basenji) and Spaik (oldest cat) was heavy Spaik was so mad at us he went under the bed and didn't show himselfe, when Buana got to close he hit Buana. Cats usually need time to get used to them, for you I think you need to watch them the first weeks constantly. From their behavior you can see how it's goint between them

    @jenniferever: ive had raleigh a little over a week, lol. i know – VERY SOON to be complaining about him & the cats. he's now used to them, and they're used to him. i unfortunately had to get rid of 1 cat because he was getting very aggressive with raleigh, but i was meaning to find that cat a new home before i got raleigh anyway. one thing that bugs me about raleigh is that he lunges at the cats. its kind of like an abrupt bow-- like BOOM! GOTCHA! and the cats of course hate it. squiggy does this. He is trying to play, which the cats go hide until he is out of that mode. He also "fleas" the cats. But the cats like it best when he just bathes them. At least my B does not have to worry about cat hair :) I have 2 sphynx:p Glad to hear your group is getting along.

    We actually did know some of what Bs are like. We went for it though and was allowed a two week test run with Joey. It took more than two weeks for him to adjust so we really didn't know how he was going to be. We actually didn't officially make him ours until after a month so we could have decided not to keep him. Despite the detruction of two pairs of shoes, blankets and towels in his crate, and a few other things, we still wouldn't trade him in! The other antics and peculiarities of this breed make up for the things lost!
