Only a basenji…..(or a cat)

    Went to the park near our house today, where they are doing some "improvements". We were unaware of the work that's been done, so we were walking our usual lap around the fence line & came upon an area that is under construction. Basically a bunch of bushes were town up from the banks of a creek bed, turning the area into a mud pit with a stagnant muddy water trench running down the middle. Lola ran straight up to the edge, kersplooshed right in, and then hopped out the other side. Booger jumped over the trench. All of the white on Lola was completely covered in dark brown mud that perfectly matched her brindle & made her look like a completely black dog. It was actually really freaky looking to see her with no white. She just had to run & try to play with Booger & paint him with mud in the process. We walked another lap to dry off, and most of the mud came off before we got to the car. They were both still pretty dirty when we got home, and we didn't have time to bathe them before we left for work.
    We got home tonight & they're both PERFECTLY clean. Very white white & beautiful soft fur. Andrew asked me if I had given them a bath because they seem so soft & clean. They must have cleaned each other. Awesome!

    @krunzer: Oh welcome to you and your B baby! Where in Canada are you? If you have a puppy and a Cat I am hoping that with the puppy growing up with the kitty that all will be well. Would love to see pics of your B if you can post some! To answer your question, I am from Montreal! To update on my basenji baby and my cat, all is actually going better than expected!!! I am so happy! My cat sometimes even runs after him and they play fight. And when he bites just a little too hard, she smacks him. But I don't think she takes out her claws, because he doesn't yelp or cry when she does it. All in all, after all the fear I had about them not getting along is working out!!! I am really happy!!!     We have two cats and two Basenji?s, but the basenji?s grew up with the oldest cat. They live togehter as a family, but the first meeting between Buana (oldest Basenji) and Spaik (oldest cat) was heavy Spaik was so mad at us he went under the bed and didn't show himselfe, when Buana got to close he hit Buana. Cats usually need time to get used to them, for you I think you need to watch them the first weeks constantly. From their behavior you can see how it's goint between them

    Kiro Gurl, That's a great pic. I have a bay window on which my 2 are constantly watching the goings on in the neighborhood. Someone in the house will say, "where's the dogs?" and the inevitable reply is "they're on Neighborhood Watch duty." Needless to say we are alerted to every unwanted intruder…..marauding cats, wilily squirrels, and those despicably lawless off leash dogs (with the occasional 'bad to the bone' large wild bird thrown in for good measure;) ) sigh, I feel sooooo safe. I thank Darwin every day that they don't have opposable thumbs 'cuz they'd be unlocking and opening the door for anyone they deemed as a suitable playmate, tummy scratcher, or cuddler:D ! Now that you have a 'window watcher' too, I suggest you invest in windex. There's nothing better to get those dog snot streaks off the windows!! (BTW...welcome to the forums toddsgirl)

    I think if you have a cat that sleeps with your basenji and plays with it, you are very lucky indeed. I would have loved that. Mine were okay for the most part but they were a lot happier and responsive when the basenjis were outside and they were with mom.:p

    Those pictures were very cute. Our one cat, Amber, looks exactly the same. Dash can be too rough with Amber so when she feels overwhelmed she runs into the basement until Dash calms down. But they commonly sleep together. Our other cat, Giz, is older and Dash doesn't bother him at all. I think it is because Giz doesn't run.

    I am so glad to see I am not the only one dealing with this issue. We got Bella when she was four months old and the chase has been on ever since. She turned one year old on December 27th and I am still dealing with this. Eight months of cat chasing and I think I am going looney here. :eek:
