I found a lump…

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • My Kiya got a lump exactly like you descibed. It was on her back thigh and never went away on it's own. I took her to the vet and they verified it was just a cyst and drained it. They said not to worry if it comes back, because it likely will. It would take surgery to remove permanently, but the vet said it's not worth it unless Kiya was going to be under anesthesia for another reason.

  • Mydaisy Has Little Lumps On Her Too. She Is 6 Yrs Old They Don't Bother Her. She Had A Vaccine A Few Weeks Ago. But The Other Have Not Gone Away.

@ohbassit: Heya Buddys pal, The day after i posted the picture of her little lump it turned black and fell right off. Actually i am not sure when it fell off i just knew it wasn't there. The bump underneith also slowly went away. We have her penciled in for a vet visit this weekend so i will let you know what they say. Thanks for the concern! Cheers Could it have just been a blood blister or something like that?

Cara had coccidia when we got her, but I have read research that it is killed more easily with ammonia than bleach so that's what I used–- pick up, pour ammonia over area. Neither Connor nor Arwen got it. But since you weren't doing it before, do take in stool samples of the other dogs to avoid them continuing to pass it around. A dog can have it with limited effect and still be passing it in stools to recontaminate your pup. http://www.sheltermedicine.vet.cornell.edu//shelter/coccidia.htm

@BDawg1005: I thought Lexi has an almond shaped lump– I felt stupid when my hubby pointed out that it was her microchip!! Duh. Miles, however, actually has three lumps-- one is under his arm pit. We were told by Banfield that we should do surgery and then have them biopsied, but we are going to get a second opinion because they feel like fatty cysts to me and I would think the protocol would not be operate first... instead aspirate, send specimens to a lab, and then determine if they're benign... Regarding the armpit lumps, and fatty cysts: Querk had a few of these, and yes, our vet felt them, said the felt like "not tumors" but then she aspirated them. She said all are benign, but we could remove them next time he was under, which is what we did. I definitely wouldn't jump to surgery.
