Dingo with his floppy ears

  • www.dropshots.com/kirkwFinally managed to get a photo up of our Dingo. Any ideas of what he could be mixed with would be helpful. Can somebody let me know if my attachment worked. If it didn't, how do you add a photo to a post?

  • Your attachment worked however the picture is very tiny :( It's hard to really see anything.

To put a picture inside your post you simply need to upload your photo onto a public website such as www.photobucket.com or www.tinypic.com After you upload it onto one of those sites the picture will have an address provided to where it's located (for photobucket I know it is listed directly under the picture in the box labeled "Direct Link". It will look something like this: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/iLoVeMyQTMaRk/.jpg

One you have done that & are trying to post it, click on the little picture of a mountain in the toolbar above the box in which you type. It will open up a separate window in which you simply paste the link to the picture. After you do this, the picture will be included inside of your posting. :)

Hope I didn't confuse you too much & feel free to PM if you have any more questions about posting stuff.

  • wow those ears are crazy!

  • Thanx Ninabeana! Used dropshots and I think it worked. Much better image of some ears flying at half mast.

  • Yes much bigger :) He's a cutie! To me kind of looks like he could be part Basenji but I'm no expert. I'm interested to see what the veterans on here think he is!

  • This is just and adorable picture

  • I almost want to say some kind of bulldog because of the more squared out snout.

  • He's a pretty boy….is that a little white patch on his rump? I can see the basenji but as far as I'm concerned, it is a coin toss as to what else is there.

    Pat

  • my guess…
    american pit bull terrier...

ears and nose kinda look the same..

  • It's kind of funny actually, the white patch on his rump almost looks like the Nike swoosh. My wife and I have thought about the Pit Bull part of him but my wife isn't too fond of Pit Bulls so she is in total denial!

  • lol i love them. i really think they just have a bad reputation. but people with strong opinions are hard to sway.. lol i googled pit bulls because thats the first thing that i thought of when i saw your dogs face.. and found that picture.. and it REALLY convinced me that it was a good chance of being the other "part" of your dog. that dog works with the k9 unit of that police station.. so not all pits are bad :D and obviously trainable..

Frankly, I'd be more concerned about the Basenji in him, LOL.

Pit bulls are awesome, friendly, goofy, eager to please, loyal dogs. Dingo'd be doing well to have a bit of that in him!

  • Yeah, I agree that they do get a bad rap. My wife got "charged" by a pit bull that was off leash on our block while she was walking our daughter who was only a year old at the time. She did her best " I'm momma bear and you'd better not mess with me or my daughter" pose and yelled at the dog to stop and go home and oddly enough the dog did just that. Same thing could have happened with any dog I suppose, but it left her with a lasting impression.

    Too funny. I'd agree!

  • And that tail can come from all sorts of husky type breeds…

  • Uh…I am pretty sure that dog has NO Pit Bull in him, body, shape of skull isn't right. But I would guess Rat Terrier...I think the terrier muzzle and eyes is what is making you think that....ya know, Pit Bulls are terriers.

  • i just thought the dogs in both pictures looked exactly the same. the body and skull dont necessarily have to mirror the pit for it to be part pit. just my opinion.

and arent rat terriers extremely tiny? like.. jack russell size? that dog is way bigger than a B, so i would assume whatever its mixed with, if it is indeed part B, would be a bigger breed.

  • I am pretty sure that Dingo is about Basenjis size, based on the his relation to the human foot in the pic?

Above is a link to Decker Rat terriers. They are bigger than traditional rat terriers (who are a little bigger/taller than Jacks), and they clearly have some Basenji blood in their mix. Some seem to have floppy ears, though I am guessing that isn't to their standard. And they dock the tails, but the ones who have tails seem to curl over their backs.

And actually, the body mass and skull width are what defines pit bull. It is what defines their breed type. They tend to be traits that are STRONG even when bred to other breeds. So, that is what you look for when you are attempting to ID a pit mix.

I dunno….who knows what really is in the mix of a mixed dogs. We can speculate. I would definitely say that somewhere back in the line Dingo has some B. And what the rest is, could be anybody's guess :)

  • Andrea…I think you might be onto something. There are 2 Rat Terriers that live down the street from us (Ruby LOVES them BTW) and one of them (Dakota, Ru's favourite) is about her size.

I am not in your area, but ... you should know that dog training is about teaching you how to interact with your dog, as opposed to teaching your dog how to do things. Most area Kennel Clubs offer training where you are your dogs partner in the class. The things you will learn will last your lifetime. I applaud the non-punitive approach. A lot of people fly off the handle when their dog chews on the wrong thing, or doesn't quite have potty training down. One of the best things you can do is give them love when they do it right and don't react when they don't. Recognize that he's just a pup. You can trade an acceptable chew toy for your shoes, and you can avoid the problem by closing the closet door so your pup can't get to your shoes. Accidents will happen and learning to potty doesn't happen overnight. Just provide a lot of verbal love when the pup gets it right and don't react when he doesn't. Love and praise are the best tools in your training bag. Congrats on your pup. Can't wait to hear about all of your adventures!

Well, she is 8 mos old and one ear up sometimes, the other rarely and neither really firm. LOL I have a defective-eared Basenji. All the adults though have ears up so maybe. She is so perfect personality wise. I just find the ears funny.
