  • Don't worry Sharron, I agree that it is a mess…and for me, the bad part is that someone who sees it that doesn't read the message or take time to process it, could see it as "hey, let's try that". There are a lot of impressionable people/kids out there that won't see it as anything but something to try on a dog.

Hey, I'm sure they alienated the entire pet loving population and consequently lost a lot of business.

Please don't get me wrong by my 1st post on this subject that I think it is good or funny...I was just coming at it from the standpoint that it wasn't just one person who thought it was a good idea and then it went to print. ;)

  • Ogilvy is famous for this sort of advertising. Check snopes. Follow the link to another commercial enterprise for the Ford Sportka:

The video depicts a curious cat climbing up on top of a car with an open sunroof, and then, curiosity gets the better of him and he sticks his head into the open sunroof…I'm sure you can infer what happens next.

There is another one out there where the car smacks a pigeon with it's hood.

Some sick people work there, even though I KNOW that these are CGI fakes and that no animals were harmed. You can bet your ass, though, that some unruly kids try these things as soon as they see them on TV, in a magazine or on the internet.

Ok…going really out on a limb here, but I don't find those Ford commercials even in the same category as the doberman print ad.

In fact, I find both of those commercials hilarious and have had them loaded in my iTunes for a couple of years now. The Ford commercials were designed for a European/British audience and were never run here. I have friends that have cats, dogs, and birds who have seen the commercials and think they are hilarious...in fact, I got the commericals from them in the first place.

The point of the ads is that the Sportka (the bada$$ version of the Ka) is seeking revenge on the birds that poop on it and the cats that scratch the hood. And let's face it, now matter how much we love animals, who hasn't been pi$$ed when a cat has scratched the paint on the hood of the car or they've found a bunch of bird poo on a freshly washed car. Doesn't mean we'd do anything like that to the animal, but I find it funny giving the car a life and feelings about what it might like to do to the animal in that situation.

IMHO, very well done and very funny...

  • You said what I wanted to but I feared getting a spanking here. :D

@sharronhurlbut: That is because Therese has just love dogs and you picked the right breeder and pup! Did your homework and see how you got "lucky"!!! True, true. I know someone mentioned in a thread something to the effect that they were hoping their b would stop being so clingy. I, on the other hand, love how Kipawa wants to be wherever I am. He will wake up from a dead sleep to follow me into another room. He really does not like me to be out of his sight, and I love that, because when I am out with him at an offleash park, he is the same. He always wants to know where I am. Regarding "luck"… well, I think it was just meant to happen. Kipawa and I bonded instantly. His little sisters were more interested in Darrel in his wheelchair, but Kipawa had to snuggle with me on the couch and put his snoot in my hair. I will never, ever forget that.

My friend belongs to the Society, not her Singer! Just reread my post and realized it sounded like the dog did, lol. He's a smart boy, but not up for signing anything legal - yet…

I once pet sat for a catoo, a parrot, 2 cats, and 2 dogs in one household. Whew, was that a job of work…mostly the birds. Props to anyone who can do that. Mostly the cats only came around for food, my main problem with the dogs was trying to keep their muddy feet off the white carpet...but the birds...oh, the birds. Could hardly get my hand in the cage to get the bowls to feed them their (owner prescribed) fruit, veggies, and even peanut butter. The catoo wasn't bad, it was the parrot that was very territorial about it. I ended up using kitchen mitts to get the bowls out of the cage. I look back on it now and have a good laugh, but at the time those bites from the parrot hurt! But every now and again during that 2 week period the darned thing would just be cute, as would the c**atoo. The owners said I could even let them out of the cage if we (the birds & I) were comfortable enough, and by the end , we were. It was very neat. That whole multi-critter experience ranks right up there with both a major learning experience and an "I'm so verry glad I had it" experiance. PS: the dogs were both German Shepherds.

@YodelDogs: I bought a new printer recently and I'm having problems with it. It is an HP Photosmart C4680. The problem that I am having is that it keeps printing the file name on the top of the printed page. It also keeps adding page numbers. Does anyone know how I can stop it from doing these two things? I am getting seriously frustrated with this. If you open the HP Print software on the File menu look for a Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer or Preferences and in one of those you will most likely find the option to uncheck those options.

I'm in, too. Some are wire haired and others are smooth like a Basenji? Interesting breed.
