I'm sure the breeders on the forum will weigh in, but also, you said you thought Roxy was a mix and not a pure bred. I don't think a responsible breeder would intentionally breed a pure bred to a mix.
This whole issue is so interesting….Pure bred dogs vs mixed breed muts. THis is the first time i have ever heard of anybody asking for a purebred dog from a breeder to sire pups of a mixed breed female mutt. thinking back to my childhood, a hundred and fifty years ago, to when most ppl had mutts and only rich people had purebred dogs. heh i would love to see a picture of this basenji who was running with a wild pack eating spicey chicken wings. heh
Well…there will be no breeder here willing to 'help out'. No responsible breeder will stud their dog out to a possible basenji mix bitch, because someone wants puppies just like her....

If you aren't a troll, I apologize, and would direct you to the many threads here about why breeding is a huge responsibility, it is something you do to preserve and/or improve a breed, not because you love your dog, and you want to see ones just like her; or because your kids want to see the miracle of birth; This in no way impunes your integrity as some one committed to rescue...but honestly most rescue people will shudder to read your post.
Refusing to stud to your bitch has nothing to do with outwaivers, or liability, or reputation...it has to do with not protecting the breed. Caretakers of the breed just don't do that

There is more to good health then current condition of the dog. Your girl has not led an easy life. If there was trouble with the pregnancy are you prepared to lose not only the puppies but Roxy as well? Even when a dog is bred who has been given the best care and everything is done right, there is a risk to the dam.
If you love this breed and the traits that Roxy has brought into your life, then the best thing you can do for her and yourself is become educated about the breed. Very well put Andrea… and I would vote for a "Troll"..... buy a movie if you want your kids to see birth.. but make sure you get the one where there are whelping problems, trips to the ER Vet... C-section, loss of pups, Mom or all... the say you just want them to see "birth of pups"... that is NO reason to breed, period... along with the fact that you are breeding a dog that has no health testing, not even sure what kind of dog, and way to young if what I read was correct and this bitch is only 9 months old.... As was said you will find no RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS that would stud their dog...

As far as I'm concerned, it's the pure breds with the most health problems. Inbreeding tends to do that. While I'm not a dog breeder, I did pass 9th grade biology.
The above posters write as if their opinion of me matters. It really doesn't and "real" dog rescuers…whatever that is...whether or not they choose to breed a dog-not my issue!

How incredibly rude and heartless. To belittle the experience of someone who did have to take their dog to an emergency vet at 3am who was told one pup was already dead and a second probably would be dead by the time surgery occured. I am sorry but even nearly 1 year later, such a careless and insensitive statement has me near tears thinking about the black and white boy that was born alive via C-section at the emergency vet but whose heart just gave out from the stress. That loss will always sting and every day I am so thankful to still be have my girl and to have her lovely daughter and visit be able to visit with her two living sons.
Roxy- I'm not a breeder and am not as knowledgeable about Basenji's as the very smart people on this forum, but aside from that I would like to say you are very rude and immature, simply put. Insulting breeders and owners on this site is uncalled for. These people are trying to help you and the breed.

It's wonderful that after owning four dogs in 40 years you are an expert as to what dogs are best for breeding, and which dogs carry the most genetic problems. Takes most breeders a while to gain that much expertise!

I'm really sorry that someone would even write something like that given all you went thru and shared w/everyone about your whole experience. The comment was totally out of line. I read your original thread long before I was a member here and long before I had Ruby, and it still makes me sad to think about it…and I didn't personally go thru it.

Because her dog (Roxy, a mix) was "wonderful and there should be 100 more like her)." Also, her business partner wanted one just like her and her kids wanted a puppy and she wanted them to experience the birth process :rolleyes:.
Since the original post was deleted by her and all of her subsequent ones as well, I'm guessing that answers the question about a "troll". I'm no basenji, but the whole thing didn't quite pass the "sniff test" :D.

Purebreds are the ones who's pups look like the parents.
kids and birth process - my yelled and ran out of the room and were horrified at the obvious discomfort of there darling girl - there only piece of enlightenmet was:
"look she slimed one" and one of my kids telling the teacher "I can use the word bitch because we raise show dogs".
"So my kids can watch the birth process" is one of the most over used phrases by people who breed random dogs and cats for no real reason.
More low quality animals are produced for that reason than any other, I'd wager.
Well, that and the desire to essentially "clone" a beloved family pet, which never actually works out that way.
Then you have people getting irritated because the dog doesn't behave like "Princess" did.
Until my Basenjis, every dog I've ever owned has been a rescue of sort sort or another. No matter how fabulous a pet they were, they were ALWAYS spayed/neutered, enjoyed and thoroughly missed when they died.
I never would have dreamed of breeding them.
Of course, I don't dream of breeding my Basenjis either – and they are both magnificent animals!!!!
My all breed dog rescue club has a letter, a bit long, about why NOT to breed.
Its sent to someone like the person who started this post.
I will share it with you all if your interested, or you can post to me privately.
