@DebraDownSouth: I am so happy to sign in and see you post! Especially with the wonderful pictures and videos. Both of our first basenjis do that to your HAIR when it's wet. I am going to try a wash cloth and see! I am glad your husband is doing better. Well hello Debra! It made me smile to see your post - I always enjoyed your comments, whether popular or not, because they were YOUR honest comments. :) I'm a huge fan of honesty. We are all doing quite well here - still in the Vancouver, BC Canada suburbs. Kipawa is thriving, and he is a big part of our lives. Yes, you should do a video of your basenjis going wild with a wash cloth. My hair is longer and thick, so I think I have to keep Kipawa out of it when it's wet. ;) As every year goes by it seems I lose a major chunk of my memory. Are you still in the 'south'? Was it Georgia? And your basenjis' names - forgive me, I can't remember them. Boy do I love getting older, NOT!

Welcome Angelilca! I'm the "mommy" of a B girl with Fanconi, also. I really encourage you to join the fanconi yahoo group. It's a GREAT resource! I have learned so much just from reading the posts of people with current issues and the experienced fanconi dog owners' replies. Also, they keep a list on the website of vets that are known to be knowledgable about the disease and are willing to communicate with Dr. Gonto (who wrote the protocol) directly when needed - because not all are. The list is by state and you can find it on the site under "files". http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/fanconidogs/ Good luck with everything and keep us posted! Sadie

I have raincoats on my b's…when its wet...but they have to go out, doesn't matter if they don't want to. We live in the PNW...so rain is part of the deal. They do learn quickly that if they are "quick" with their business...they can go indoors. Get a raincoat for her and take her out. Laugh!

@Lenora: Hello to the new basenji owner from Birmingham! I live in Highland Park, so you are not alone. I got Abbey two years ago from some people in Morris who have the parents. She is actually not the first basenji I've had. We got Pumpkin in 1970 from the humane society here in Birmingham for $3 dollars!! Pumpkin was the color of a pumpkin. I didn't know basenjis came in black and white til I saw Abbey. The original owners had four puppies and for some reason she didn't sell till she was four months old. Basenjis here are rare, and that's part of the joy of owning one. People stop me all the time in the street and say, that's the most beautiful basenji I have ever seen! And people who don't know what she is make all kinds of guesses–a jack russell terrier is the most frequent guess. One man yesterday said is that a short haired collie (I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing). And everybody who doesn't know about basenjis is fascinated to hear about them. yes when jig and i are out and about or even at the vet, we are always stopped because people are like what kind of dog is that. he is so pretty. of course jig is quite the flirt and loves the attention and putting on a show. glad to know im not the only one around these parts! im down 280, passes brook highlands, greystone i guess you would call it!
