I used to hike frequently with mine, and considered getting them backpacks so they could haul some of their own water. However, when I did research, the recommendation was not to give them more than 10% of their weight to carry, which would be less than 2 lbs each for my girls. I decided I could carry that 3.5 pounds of water myself quite easily.
So I don't have any recommendations, but if all he is carrying is mail, I think any of them would be fine.

As an alternative to Booties, you could try a paw wax. I haven't tried it but its been recommended to me before. Protects from the salt damaging the paws. Here is a link to a brand I have seen.

I still get alot of people who ask what breed zoe is. At least at 8 months no one asks if she is a chi anymore. Some start out asking what kind of mix she is. Every once in awhile someone recognizes that she is a basenji. Just yesterday we were waiting outside a sheetz gas station when a woman looked up and saw zoe at the window with me and had to come over to ask if she was a B.

I get people who uncurl her tail all the time luckily she doesnt mind in the least you can touch her all over no problem. And most of the time she loves the attention. I swear if someone passes by her without petting and adoring her she will look at them like they are idiots.

I use 1 inch collars by Bison, the 10-16" size works well for all my dogs. I went with the Bison collars because they are the only quick release buckle collar that has been rugged enough for my basenjis. Bison started out as a climbing company so their materials had to be rugged enough for climbers, that quality has also been present in the collars that I have gotten from them.

For martingales and slip leads, I buy from All Hounds Apparel, http://www.allhoundsaparrel.com. She does several different widths. I like at least 1 inch for my dogs for any walking collar and prefer the widest I can get for coursing slip leads.
