Where did Nala come from? Can she stay there while you're out of town?
I did not have a good experience with Rover.com. Don't do it.
Can you find and make friends with another basenji owner in your area where you can take turns pet sitting? Maybe you can find local basenji owners on Meetup or Facebook?
My heart would break to leave her at a boarding facility or a vet although she'd probably be fine. I like the idea of a pet sitter staying at your home ONLY IF you can really train the pet sitter on several visits before leaving in August (not far away!!!)
Basenji Chihuahuah mix?
-
Hi guys! So I got this kiddo from a rescue in November. I was told she was a Chihuahuah. They didn't know anything about her really, her previous human passed away and they had only had her a few days when I got her. I picked her up from getting spayed (drugged, straight tailed, having never met her before), brought her home and bonded very quickly we bonded very quickly bc she was just out of it and needed comfort. Totally believed she was a Chihuahuah.![alt text](image url)Upon my vet and many others peoples input, I really think she is a chi/basenji mix. She is yappy but makes really funny, hardly dog noises. She's also crazy smart, walks on her hind legs, has that wrinkled expressive brow, and is a general awesome weirdo![alt text](image url). She didn't know how to play at first. We brought home another pup a few weeks later, chi/papillon, and he taught her. He's now at times regretting this, she is nuts. A lot more dog than I thought I was signing up for but she's AWESOME. This is a basenji, right?

I am really laughing very hard. My basenji is looking at me wondering what's up.
Sometimes (often) new basenji owners who were looking for a basenji and THINK they know what's up would say the same thing.
She absolutely looks like a chi/basenji mix. Is she? I don't know. Only a DNA test would give you much confirmation.
Does your vet have any idea how old she is? She may be so happy to have attention and play that she's in over drive and it might wear off. LOL but since it's been 5 mos.. I wouldn't count on it.

Lol my vet basically told me "whoops you have a basenji" I'm just rolling with the punches now. She's great so I'm looking forward to learning more about my best friend.

Maybe two at the least. Old enough if she weren't so silly.
