Any Basenjis in the Lower Mainlan British Columbia?

    I have an eight month old brindle Basenji named Jax. We frequent many of the dog parks around the lower mainland. I have been hoping to run into another Basenji owner but have now realized the odds of that happening are slim to none. I was hoping that this forum might help. If there are any Basenji owners in the area that enjoy taking there Basenji to dog parks please let me know.

    I will check out the Facebook page. There is a nice dog park in Encinitas, but I'm not sure how far you are from the area.

    Find a good positive reinforcement puppy class, like clicker training and you will both have fun. All of mine have earned at least a rally novice obedience title and love the training. There are some things that you should not expect of a basenji such as being outside off lead. They are sighthounds and must be on a lead or in a fenced area at all times. The biggest issue with a house with children is that the children must understand the door can never be left open. My inlaws have a terrible habit of wanting to stand in the doorway and talk as people leave. I have to shoo them outside so the dogs do not try to dart outside given the opportunity. We have had ten basenjis since our son was two, he is now 27 and the basenjis raised him.

    Hey dogstar42, I'm not in that exact area but the Basenji Club of Southern Wisconsin(http://www.bcosw.org/) has several activities every year not far from you, one of which is a Fun Day where everyone can bring there dog for fun and games in Rockford, IL. It's on July 11 this year. You should consider joining the club. They haven't updated the calendar on the website yet but if you look in the latest newsletter it has a list of most of the dates for the year. There is also a Chicagoland Basenji Club but I am not as familiar with that one. Clay
