Hello.

This my first post. I don't know what to do to get a puppy. Seems like they are all for sale in the winter time.

I want this puppy to propose to my girlfriend. She is in love with basenjis because of her dog she grew up with was basenji/pity mix.

A puppy with a nice diamond on the collar should result in a yes. Lol

Any advice is appreciated!

It depends on the breeder. I come from Rottweiler breeding background... we expose puppies to loud noises, really loud, uneven sources, temp changes, etc etc. Getting one at 8 wks, start off slow. I am sort of shaking my head... grew up around hunters and dogs and none cared... but that was the norm. I did find what looks like a reasonable article that might help.

Also, I know you are set on a male... but have you considered an older rescue? Brat, CampBasenji and other rescues might have the perfect dog for you if no puppies are available. Otherwise, be prepared to get on waiting lists for next year.

Most likely because they were challenged about breeding practices and health testing. Again, I hope that they read about Fanconi testing and health testing. I was glad to see that the bitch will be spayed and hope that they do so… but more I hope that they have the sire and dam tested and the pups if the sire and dam are not clears.
