    We have our Basenji mix on Solid Gold, Sundancer. It is newer, and it is chicken based, no grains, no by products. I don't know if anyone else has tried it yet but it is her all time favorite (she prefers chicken over beef) but she seems a lot better all around on Solid Gold. We also give her their treats! If anyone is looking for a good dry food and has chicken loving Basenjis I recommend it!

    We have fed Solid Gold before. We think it was the Barking at the moon version. Its great food but like most of the good foods its more expensive.

    @lustopher No ! they will gum them if they can't chew and it all helps with teething.

    Not sure how Xylitol is being marketed. It is an alcohol found in a lot of plants, including birch wood, which is the source of Xylitol used in medicines. And it is toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Most of the time you find it in sugarless gum and candy.     I would find out what he scared of or what he dislikes about the car. Is it the car itself, the sensation of being closed in, the movement when the car is being driven? Then work on whatever the problem is, with food. As for food, I use raw duck and vegetables. And I hand-feed all meals, so I never have a problem with not eating/partially eating. I would also recommend hand-feeding for anyone who does have a dog with food issues. Shredded chicken is good (as long as he doesn't have any reactions). But that and some kibble isn't a balanced meal. You may wish to look into a vitamin supplement, specifically something that has a focus on omega 3 (since chicken is high in omega 6), Vitamin C & the B vitamins (because if all he's eating is chicken and kibble, where is his source of vitamin C and the B vitamins?), zinc & copper (same reasons).     I just got a call from the vet on Buddy's blood panel results and all looks good. I'm going to continue with the diet I'm feeding him since it seems to be working. His thyroid test last June from Dr Dodds also looked good. If your Basenji is experiencing any skin, coat or digestion problems try eliminating all grains including rice and see how it goes.
