Hi to all

  • We are new to the forum, but not basenji's. My husband has had basenji's for 35 years. When we married 8 years ago he came with a senior basenji and I a elkhound. Sadly old age claimed Oreo's life at 15. We now have two basenji's a 3 year old red and a 2 year old tri. I have gained alot of knowledge over the years and really love this breed. Its not hard to do that. My elkhound has been with basenji's so long he now acts like them. Not many elkie traits left.
He even sleeps with his leg in the air every now and then. We are lucky as they all get along. Just wanted to say hi to all

  • Hi there! I'm sure you'll have fun here-my boxenji sleeps the same way!

  • Welcome!! How funny about your Elkie :)

  • My mixed breed Missy is getting that way but I don't know what kind of dog she is but if you saw her tail you would say Basenji. That is just tooooooo funnnnnnnnnny

  • It's funny how the other dogs become Basenji's!! Not the other way around!

  • Welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see pics of ALL your dogs.

I think they just look solid so my mind saw "bigger." I have one of the Wimaumau rescue giants (44 pounds), but even my 2 previous gals were far from petite... about 26 to 28 pounds. My dream of a petite 18 pound basenji just never happened, lol.

When I 1st got Kirabo, I had named her Hollie. A few mths later my wife told me every time I had a seizure, she would go crazy & wouldn't leave my side. Then 1 night I had a dream & God told me to name her Kirabo which means " a gift from God". She truly is God sent. Kirabo stays by my side & is constantly keeping her eyes on me, always observant of every-thing I do.

Her name is Mattie and she is a real sweetie. My son brought her home from a mission trip in Appalachia. She has become my shadow and we just can't imagine not having her around.

Luzambo, I too had one pass last March. After that I was left with one and said once he passed, I was going to be done with dogs – too much of work and emotional strain. Yep, I was going to be free to... well, to do something. Then I found a little girl related to Brie just 2 weeks later and 6 months later I have yet another. Yes, they're a lot of work at times, but so is most everything in life. I love having them around and the house would be often boring otherwise. I'm sure Pharaoh and my Brie are hanging out in their private club looking down on us saying "what are you guys doing down there?" And with a signature like yours, I don't think you'll be waiting long. Welcome to the forum!
