Canada's largest puppy mill bust

Off Topic
  • A large commercial breeder in Quebec was raided over the weekend, and over 500 dogs were confiscated.
The breeder is Paws R Us, which previously proudly called itself the largest commercial breeder in Canada. They successfully sued a pet owner/former customer for defamation in 2009 when she went online to several sites calling them a "puppy mill."

They stock over 40 breeds, and over 500 dogs were confiscated. But they're "not a puppy mill." Okay, this is when I don't understand the law…

I know they had Shibas, but I don't know if they have Basenjis. Probably? Anyway, this seems like a case to keep your eyes on, especially those on the East Coast. It remains to be seen how the court will handle the confiscated the dogs. Paws R Us is appealing, and the dogs may be returned. Or they be flooding rescue. I'm watching this one.

There will always be a problem out there when the mentality is "bigger/volume is better". Just this weekend we met a young guy who proudly said that his dog was one of 12 in the litter, and that there were lots of other dogs 'there' (at the BYB) and because of that he got his 'purebred' black lab for only $75. I cringed and could almost visualize the horrible situation the dogs were in. We need to keep getting across to people that BYBs who do not care about anything other than $$ need to be put out of business.

So, I guess I couldn't have seen you in my recent trip throught the city of flying pigs (for those unaware, there is one). Two hours of stop and go southbound, trying to get to the airport. I was in the backseat and looked at every truck on the off chance there might be an AJ sighting. Obviously, no luck, as you were a few time zones away :) Had I seen AJ, I might have jumped out of the car I was in and jumped into your truck for a couple of miles…just to say 'Hi'...that's how slow going it was. My advise, for north or southbound, take the by-pass...but what do I know? There were plenty of trucks willing to wade through the traffic.

While I-70 and I-75 seem to be the major cross-roads in my neck of the woods, I rarely get up that way. However, if you ever find yourself on I-675, I could wave to you from the bridge near my house:) "Shiny Hiney" …LOL..I'll remember that.:)

I love Chicago…most truckers think I'm a kook for having that opinion, but I've been known to go 75 miles out of my way just to sit in Chicago traffic. :D There's a certain energy in Chicago I can't find anywhere else in the world. And yes, that says a lot...I've been in major cities from Tokyo to Prague (Praha) to Munich to Seoul as well as amost every major city in the US. There's just something about Chicago.
