@SyberSade: Thank you Dan (Nobarkus) and Ivoss! You Basenji Forum people come through for me once again! When I get back home (Mesa, AZ) I'll hit the bookstore with my list of recommendations and see what I can find. (I'm flying to Sacramento this weekend to see my son play in his last college football home game….....go UC Davis Aggies!! :D ) @lvoss: Go Aggies! I live in Woodland and am a UCD alum. We will be just down the road in Dixon lure coursing the dogs. FYI Ivoss….........UCDavis won the game I went to see son #2 play in! BUT, last weekend UCD lost to Sac State in the Causeway Classic......which made son #1 really happy because he is in a masters program there. But UCDavis had a great season. I think the guys are pretty happy about it (even though they would've liked to beat the Hornets!). Hope you and your "kids" had a great time at the lure cousing..........I was SO tempted to sneak away and run over to Dixon to check it out..........but couldn't bring myself to leave my boys since I rarely see them anymore. ;)

@wizard: Oh yes I agree about the end of life issue - and I thought it was a good idea to include those questions about helping to decide. It's a really tough decision I know. re: the bison – a previous mutt I had used to hang around the neighbor's horses and tease them by nipping (nothing serious) at their heels. Finally one horse had enough and kicked him (not very hard - no damage). My dog never ever teased any of the horses again. I think most dogs would naturally make that kind of learning association -- big animal hurt me, leave big animal alone. EXACTLY! Big animal hurt me, leave big animal alone…..that is perfect! I'm so glad to have this kind of dialogue about the book....I read it and really felt the need to discuss. THANK YOU!!!

I too am a proud owner of a rescue basenji! I stumbled across his picture on petfinder one day and said to my boyfriend Brian there is a basenji at Pet Orphans (all breed rescue in Van Nuys)! So we went over for a visit and he looked a little ruff on the edges under weight, dull coat, a little dandruff, puppymill"ish looking and about two years old. I was a little apprehensive at first, Brian on the other hand feel in love the first second. He said to me I have had basenjis for years now and I know this one is special. We took the little guy home and the rescue was hassle free we didnt have to deal with twenty million questions or home checks it was great. I beleve there is a basenji lover working there because after I have noticed they have had a few other pure B's and cute B mixes. We knew we were in love with how cute he was but we never imagined how well behaved, sweet, and easy going this little dog turned out to be. From the B's that have been in the family, one from a pet store, two from breeders, and our rescue the rescue has been the best behaved, best temperment, and the most well rounded out of them all. Everyday He puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I love my rescue.
