Since Buster is a rescue, I would highly suggest that you have DNA Fanconi testing done. It is a cheek swab that you do yourself. You can order the test at www.offa.org for 65.00. Money well spent for peace of mind and know your Basenji's status. Scroll down till you get to Fanconi DNA

Hi all! Just signed up today and have found lots of good tips in the threads I have read so far. I have a Basenji-mix named Boomer. I adopted him when he was about 1 or 2 from a rescue group in Richmond, VA (BARK). Boomer has been with me for 7 years, through completing my bachelors, 2 moves, a wedding, and hopefully soon completion of a PhD. As best I can tell (I haven't tried doing any DNA testing.. yet) he's half Basenji, half Shiba Inu (Basenji-nu?) and very lovable.
Look forward to getting to hear more about your pups and learning from your experience with this breed of dogs that can nearly out-stubborn my husband
