Sunbathing Part III

Show Off Your Dog
  • Of course it's another weekend for sunbathing….

Where did all the sunlight go?

Ohh…. that wasn't a very flattering picture... You better delete it

    Ok dinner time.

  • The expression on that next-to-last is priceless!

  • Great indoor shots !!!
And of course a VERY BEAUTIFUL beastie !:)
I have a question: on the first couple of pictures I can see a marrow bone …
Is it "a real one" ?
I sometimes give Bendji a piece of meat with the bone (cow) still attached to it but I've read some articles where the authors claim that giving hard bones from cattle is very very bad for their teeth ... And I won't have him ruining his beautiful adult teeth !:o

BTW, he doesn't "eat" the bone, just gnaws on it …
    Any experience ??

  • It's a sterilized beef bone. I've used these for years with my other dogs. He won't gnaw on them for very long. I tend to fill them with something that interests him and he'll spend time licking them. He seems to prefer rawhides over anything else.

I like them because they don't break apart. The border collie I used to have would gnaw on them and they would last for years. His teeth were in great shape.

Haven't heard anything about these bones wearing down their teeth abnormally.

    Thanks for your comment !
Bendji also gnaws (and eats) small rawhide bones but he definitely chooses the beef bone if he can. :p

Yeah, I have to leave these out for him (except for the rawhides, which I have out when I'm home) so he won't chew on something else (as you can see in the photos  ).

Ever tried using Tea Tree Oil on the spots which are forbidden ? I bought a small bottle last week and he HATES the smell of it !!! So finito all the furniture chewing … A 10 ml bottle costs $ 6.00 ;)

Yep. Been using that. But actually his chewing has stopped ever since I picked up a DAP diffuser. Going on a week now and no furniture chewing. :D

  • FYI, the marrow bones are OK for them to gnaw on, but after a while they will become more brittle and might break apart like one of those pics showed…but it will take a while, like a month or more. I give my dogs nothing but knucklebones or marrowbones-RAW- and they love it and as an added bonus one of my non-B's has gotten almost of his tartar build up off, and we have only been doing the RAW diet for a month...yeah. The vet wanted him to come in for some serious teeth cleaning with doggie valium and all that...not needed anymore.

Of course I love the pics...especially the one with the funny face, second from bottom..

@mamicam said in Do you think he is part basenji or Jack russell?: He's darling. Brat had a half chihuahua/half baseji on the mixed page years ago. So who knows. Whatever, that' is one cute fellow! A basenji/jack russel would not be affected by Fanconi as it is necessary for both parents to have the gene. Unless the parents are also mixes with fanconi genes. However I agree the DNA can give a lot of value for health as well as cues about what breeds are in the mix.

@layla He sure is cute no matter what—but this Basenji website is really good and I have gotten really good advice and really good input from all the people and their dogs...

I am so sorry about your brother. Yes, seems he was meant to be with your family. If you get a chance, record his vocalizations. We really love pictures and videos!
