  • OMFG that's CRAZY!! And it's not just basenjis, all the breeds are like that, I was just browsing through and there was a GSD that they wanted $2,997 for   and it's 8 months old. WTF??? Unreally, makes me want to say lots of foul language that I can't write here

Also looking at other breeds, poor dogs look no where near the standards; like Tanza points out the Champion lines is a high probability of being at least 3 or more generations back, and not in immediate pedigree.

And one last anger moment, they actually have a list for "Mixed Breeds" and prices for $800+ averaging at least $1000

    @bellabasenji:

This is very unsettling!!! All of these Basenjis look rather scraggly IMO. Anyone notice something wrong with the 1yr old Tri girl's back foot???

I looked at it, looks more like stain from chewing on it like from a allergy related issue of something along that lines

  • I looked at the back foot also. It looks like she's been crated and standing in her own waste. They definitely get feet like that from their own waste. The high ph is like acid on their skin after awhile. So sad. IMO she's definitely a kennel dog who looks like she's been made to be scared and submissive. So sad.

  • Look - same pups, different price! What in the world?!

  • One more - this is the abosolute most disturbing thing I'ver ever seen - ADD TO CART???? REALLY??? (Same pups on here too!)

I think perhaps because the price would have been too high on the k9stud site compared to everyone else selling puppies. Or maybe the other site charges a much higher service fee.

Did you notice the caption under the picture of the puppy on the main page?
"another example of our products" :(

I CANNOT agree with you more…

I also thought that she had a stained back foot from standing in her own waste

I also thought that she looked TERRIFIED... I thought the pups looked sad, but, she looks like she has been dragged out of the "breeding barn", (probably they havent been able to breed her, hence her being for sale... She is of no use to them now...), taken indoors, an area she has NEVER seen before, to take the "happy shots", ready for the market :mad::mad: Im sure she would love to curl up on the couch with you, once she recovers from all the psychological problems, she has been gifted with, via these lowlifes:mad:.

    UNBELIEVABLE

Did you also see that when you bring up the page of b/w, it says "There are no PRODUCTS in this category", explains it very well…

  • Nemo -

I did - along with all of the other verbage - product catalog, shopping cart… I was so furied when I stumbled on this site a few months back, I wrote the contact a nasty e-mail - of course, I've not gotten a reply......

  • And this is exactly why so many of us are so passionate about telling people to find a responsible breeder or go to rescue for their basenji. Every puppy these people sell means that they will just breed again to have more "product".

  • And I love how they church it up wih their tacky little background displays.

  • I cannot imagine the life these poor dogs have led… it breaks my heart to think...

@tanza said in solving the "bad breeder" problem:: you know nothing about breeding ... In all fairness, @tanza, you don't have any idea where my breadth of knowledge lies. I have previously stated that I have no desire to become a breeder, but that isn't the point. Is it? You are venting because I am firmly standing my ground. We've been through this discussion before and I'd wager that we will do it again. Over the same thing, ad nauseam. either allow this or ... I understand that you are frustrated. @eeeefarm said in solving the "bad breeder" problem:: It is also fair to state any provable fact, but that should be left up to the individual, e.g. "my puppy has "such & such" condition, and my puppy came from "so & so" breeder with this existing condition. I agree with this, provided there is a way to prove that the illness could have been prevented by the breeder. That doesn't mean that every illness is breeder related. For example: Parvo and Giardia are widespread issues commonly contracted from one infected animal coming into contact with another, before or after the pup leaves the breeder. A pup with Giardia isn't necessarily a result of poor care by the breeder because it would be almost impossible to determine where the pup was infected. I think we should avoid referring to a breeder using subjective terms like: bad, irresponsible, etc. You cannot prove an opinion. If someone sees a statement (like that) about them and decides to contact an attorney, you and I aren't the ones who would be going to court. @JENGOSMonkey Thank you for your two cents (I liked the image, too). You are right. Most of what I do as a "moderator" is banning people who create profiles for commercial websites to improve their Google rank. I feel like if I kick them off right away, they won't bother us with inappropriate posts. I have banned over 2,000 profiles (so far), looks like I have 3 or 4 more to tend to today.

@tanza I'm definitely attending the next show as a recon trip. Not sure how the work here but if they're similarly easy to enter as the ones in the US, I do want to show Roux! LOL that's a hilarious saying; I absolutely appreciate a smart lady over cluelessness haha :face_with_tongue:

@Channing's_Girl: I bought my pup from Mary Alaniz. She said his parents had been tested. He will be a year old in 5 days. So far no health problems. She was very nice and told me if I have any questions or need advice to contact her. I researched the breed and breeders for over a year before I bought one. I think if the dogs are well bred (in terms of genetics) and are healthy that it is oK if they are not AKC registered, especially if you are not interested in showing and are going to have them fixed anyways. Also, her dogs are pets to her, not just a dollar sign, she seems to really care about them, they live in her house, unlike some breeders who keep dogs in kennels. Good to hear. I bought my Basenji from her a couple years back as well. I got the runt of that litter (the last one left) but she's doing just fine.

@KiroGurl: how much would a red boy cost from most breeders? whATS THE AVERAGE? In the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic, I'd say a safe estimate is around $1000 - $1200 for a puppy from a responsible, reputable breeder. Personally, I haven't found there to be a lot of variables with pricing when you go to a responsible breeder. Off hand, the only real difference in pricing I've seen seems to be that it does vary by region of the US - kind of like everything :D. If a breeder is pricing by colour, male vs. female, or AKC registered/not, I'd immediately look for another breeder - personally I would consider those red flags and RUN. There may be breeders that charge differently for pet vs. show, but there are plenty that don't - none that I've encountered do. A good place to start to find a responsible breeder is always the BCOA breeders directory at basenji.org. And don't forget to verify health tests on offa.org
