New buddy for the basenji's

Basenji Talk
  • After spending many months looking for a new elkhound pup to grow up with my two basenji's. My searches for a new pup went down more than a few roads that ended with no pup for one reason or another. That road took a new fork that lead me to rescue my new baby. He was puppy dumped at 5 weeks at our local kill shelter all of his litter were adopted but him. We have a no kill shelter about 5 miles away, he wasn't taken there. No one even looked at this little guy. He spent one month in the shelter and was scheduled to be killed if someone didn't come soon. After going everyday to the shelter for one week I finally got to meet him but had decided earlier in the week he would have his forever home. He is a 11 wk old aussie mix. New experience never owned anything but a "hound group" dog He is a great puppy truly just wants to please. I think he knows he was saved. When I brought him home he just looked at me as if to say thanks. He now loves life, has a big backyard to run, he never touched grass till two weeks ago. Basenji boy has no issues with him, but tri little girl feels her alpha spot might be threatened but she is so very wrong. Working thru that with her. Our new little guy is called Moby. I think God had a hand in keeping him safe till we found each other and he came HOME

  • Wow, that's great! Thanks for saving this little guy! And welcome Moby :)
    Now we need pics…

    :D :D

  • What a great story! and also from here, welcome Moby..

    I love to see pics!

We have two cats and two Basenji?s, but the basenji?s grew up with the oldest cat. They live togehter as a family, but the first meeting between Buana (oldest Basenji) and Spaik (oldest cat) was heavy Spaik was so mad at us he went under the bed and didn't show himselfe, when Buana got to close he hit Buana. Cats usually need time to get used to them, for you I think you need to watch them the first weeks constantly. From their behavior you can see how it's goint between them

My parents have a mutt mix with bernese mountain dog. Every time I go to their house and let Medjai out in the back yard, he growls and snaps at him. Medjai quickly warms up and I would simply recommend that you get the dogs outside, on leash in the front yard to meet the B. It's part of the neutral ground thing. Medjai simply tries to take control right away.

Jayden is super gross when it comes to what he'll eat: poop, vomit, and, if he pees on the patio, he'll lick that. Honest!!! We feed him and we feed him very well! Yucccchhhhh! Pat

BBOB-whew! So glad that you've done some homework with them. We've had too many abandoned B's lately that I can't bear it anymore. Like Andrea it depends on what they've gotten themselves into during the day like pretty flowers, grass or flowering trees…then I'm in trouble. :)

@Lenora: As some of you may know, Abbey turned the Big 3 on Christmas Day. She has made a few resolutions for 2007 which I think reflect her new maturity. (1.) I will not kiss any more kitties even if they are my cousin, because my nose is still sore from last time. (2.) If given a choice between a bath and going out in the rain, I will choose the rain if I have to tinkle really bad, and going out in the rain may actually delay having to get a bath. (3.) I will not get up from a nap when my mom is taking a shower and knock the ironing board over on my head. (4.) This year I resolve to eat healthier. No more bath sponges, bath scrubbies, socks, catalogs, leaves off the airplane plant, or my Santa's nose. (5.) When my mom has Important Visitors I will not excuse myself from the room and return carrying a bra. This causes my mom to make very loud noises which hurt my ears and makes me ashamed of my little joke for nearly a whole minute. Happy New Year from Abbey and Lenora! I should probably get my own username on this forum, so I'm not continuing to write about my own undergarments & such under my boyfriend's name… My boyfriend's basenji mix loves dirty clothes. Andrew used to have two female roommates, and Bandit would pull their dirty undergarments out, chew the crotches out and leave crotchless panties lieing around in embarassing places. I felt so sorry for them! Another time, he ate the hems off of Andrew's pantlegs. We came home one evening to find something sticking out of Bandit's butt. Upon further investigation, Andrew ended up pulling out two 6" pieces of pant hems from Bandit's rearend. Bandit also loved to dig through Andrew's roommates' bathroom garbage & pull out the really nasty items and eat those. Many a small string has been found dangling from his mouth while trash is strewn about the bathroom floor... Yuck! Carrie
