    So the other day I'm walking Mick around the neighborhood and run into a neighbor I've never met. She has a lil white poodle who growled and would not have any of Mick's antics. So this women proceeds to tell me that when she was little she saw a film that Walt Disney made about a lost Basenji. She said it was called Good-bye, My Lady. So when I got home I googled it and found this.

    "Skeeter has found this dog and discovers no one knows what kind of dog it is. Discussing the matter with his uncle the desire to keep and train the dog for bird hunting after finding the dog has super senseing ability but does not bark. He "yoddles" or laughs as some would say. However the real owner William Hoppers character wants him back due to the rarity of the breed.     Yeah it's based on the book by James Street, published in 1941.
    They used six basenjis to make the movie, and the kid who plays Skeeter kept one of the females after shooting.
    The movie is in black and white, it's long, and it's not really that great. I prefer the book.

    We have the movie, only because it is about a Basenji, but even my kids {who were raised on old movies} think it's a bit much – the Basenji crying had them giggling out loud. They did all want to smack the kid around for his training techniques though, LOL.

    Oh, and you're right agile, it's a Warner Brothers movie.

Why would you even think about training a hunting hound to stay home alone ? I would never let my Basenjis alone for more than 4 hours, and even that is very rare. 3 hours is absolute maximum. Like @tanza, I have sold puppies into apartment environments as long as all other boxes ticked positive. Someone there all the time, proper attention to training, not just leaving the dog alone, especially not as a puppy. btw, he won't bark at all. As you would know if you had really researched the breed. He will cry and scream but not bark ! No. At least you are asking questions but I really think you should find another breed.

    My basenji mix Layla loves to run around in very high plants and shrubs like foxtail. Could it be that it reminds her of something similiar like in Africa?

    Shaye loves the sun - will lie out in the heat for as long as she can get it. Gemma, being a basenji/sheltie mix and furrier, lies on the cool tiles on the porch, and when the sun hits her, she heads for the A/C. At the beach, Shaye lies in the hot sand in the sun until I get her into the shade, and because she is also a heat seeking thing, wants to be totally under covers to sleep at night. Stands to reason the tris and b/w's would absorb more heat and not prefer it as much as the r/w's do.

    @Basenji_Boy: Mine usually like to roll on my bath towel after I shower:eek: ….. that's right after they roll on my smelly socks and work shoes:eek: . But yet they always smell so good............strange.:D :D :D Ha ha thats my basenjis youre talking about!!! Sometimes I'm not even finished with the towel myself before they steal it away and roll all over it. :)
