Klassy will represent the Basenji's at Westminster. She's is a very good choice…...Go Klassy!

  • Yes, she is… I see that Pam and Sheila's boy was absent?

We where wondering too? Don't know, weather maybe….not sure.

    Klassy will represent nicely!;)

  • Had a great time Westminster!!! :) Klassy represented the breed very well & what a BEAUTIFUL Tri Girl she is :D :D

Zephyr was pulled because he's having trouble with indoor shows & he just wasn't ready for this show this year :(

  • Just as an FYI to all, if you didn't already know, Uno's (the beagle) handler is Russella's (Klassy's handler) husband… so sort of kept it in a Basenji "type" family since Russella's breeds Basenjis along with being a handler.

Mike Work and his wife where both showing dogs there as well.

    Now, I DID know that… :)

  • Is it okay to still be miffed that the B didn't win it? pout

I think we are still regulated to the "weird" group (if there ever was such a category in dog shows… I'm sure we'd be there right with the Chinese Crested, the Neopolitan Mastiff, and the Puli).

I love Klassy, however IMO, she didn't deserve to win… she didn't show well... and had that great Basenji attitude... of "oh well I really am not into this tonight"....gggg and Klassy does have 3 Best in Shows

Although I did love that she kind of pointed on the judging table :D :D :D …but she definitely didn't behave herself in the ring. :D

Behaving is one thing… but really she didn't "show herself"... they can do that even when being "bad"

  • The rest of you that show I am sure have experienced this - when the judge is someone that values what I've brought to the ring - my dog is horrid and doesn't win. When I know that the judge likes something different than what I've got that day - my dog is perfect and doesn't win.

Ah well - different dog show different day different outcome. I know from my vantage point in the center of the ring that sometimes after I judge and I look at the catalog - many times animals I have adored before - just don't have a good day or show their best.

One of my friends was the Breed judge of some of the working breeds at Westminster and she offered this little tidbit of information. The camera location on the down and back was really off to the angle a bit so LOTS of the dogs that acutally looked good - looke horrid on TV. In addition she said that the rings were horridly small. The great danes could hardly get to a trot.

I have a 1 year old female B that would love to play. Haven’t seen any Bs in this area. I live close to NOVA so if you set up a date I’ll gladly bring her to a dog park!

@shermanfive said in Basenji National event in Arizona: I am looking at attending the event being held in Tuscon Arizona Nov 2019. As a soon to be Basenji owner is this an event for observers ? Is there a cost? If I can only attend 2 days what are the "must see" events What day is the November event exactly? To be honest, it looks very well.

Found this thread and figured I would respond. I have an almost 1yr old Male (27 November) and would be interested in meeting up with other Basenji owners and their dogs. I live near Quantico and quite honestly don't see any other Basenjis ever. Will drive to most parks in the NOVA area.

@laurieannechen There is a SoCal Basenji meetup this Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 9 AM- 12 noon, Laguna Beach Dog Park www.lagunabeachdogpark.com Here is a link to the Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/359744554994753/ Join the Facebook group "Orange County (CA) Basenji Meet Ups" https://www.facebook.com/groups/942444349188499/ They are trying to set up meetups at least once a month. With the COVID-19 virus meetups were on hiatus but now that some dog parks are opening up meetups for Basenjis are starting up again. I live in San Diego so I really have to think about driving 1.5 hours with 2 senior Basenjis. Have fun! Lynn Bilotta

@Sheree, this thread is from 2014. The posters haven't been on this forum for years!
