Magician basenji?

Basenji Talk
  • man, i have 3 b's and the male, ramsey, i swear no matter where i put him, or lock him up he can get out, i have a crate that i had to lock becuase he could get out if i didnt, i mean lock with a padlock also on that crate i had to put a piece of plywood on it with free weights. also when my female was in heat one day i put him in the basement and he climbed out the window 7 foot ceilings and im talk little basement windows. lastly there is a part of the basement where its dirt and he climbed out and got outside and it was freezing outside, when i got home he was on the porch. Does anyone else have problems with their b's escaping?

  • Bs…escaping?....Surely you jest! :D

  • Let's see… we have to put a carabiner on Sophie's crate, she's climbed over a six foot fence several times, can open sliding glass doors, and pop open regular doors by pawing the handle and throwing herself against it.... nope, never heard of a basenji escape artist! ;) :D

  • Basenjis escaping?? Surely you jest

  • A B escaping?? Never! They would never open doors (hence baby locks), climb fences (there is those double doors), or pop the crates open (double ended locks).

  • can open sliding glass doors,

Our girl does that, we end up leaving it open most the summer, until bugs & bees start to appear.

  • Dash will go around our fence pushing it out with his nose to find the weak spots and then escape. He also will sabbotage the leash so when we walk him it has just enough material to look like it will hold him and then it snaps and he is off like a bat out of hell. He did it this weekend. I forgot to check and we were at a gas station in Nelsonville. Thank God he comes when called.

Oh Barklessdog, you are a brave person. I must now stand with you in insane-solidarity and admit I bought it too. It is awful but when you get the line "we couldn't say goodbye so we took him home" part, you know you got to help support the woman. lol

My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

My Rue is pretty perfect. She is mixed with something (I don't know what) so she doesn't look like a real B… and she isn't interested in anything in our house (chewing wise), doesn't bolt out the door, and licks like CRAZY! She also doesn't really like to play with other dogs at the dog park, she just smells them, occasionally chases them, then comes back and lays down by me (EXERCISE DANG IT!). The only normal B behaviors that I see in her are the little noises that she makes (she makes a lot of them for different reasons) and her BAROOOOOOO (which is fitting because we named her Rue before we even knew she was a Basenji) and it seems like she is stubborn about sitting. It's like she is saying, "yeah I know you want me to sit, but first I'm gonna spin around in a circle. Then maybe I'll sit if I feel like it." Haha! She is a character!

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!

OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
