Balloons

Basenji Talk
  • Mica and I were out on another walk when it was foggy outside in the evening. She is ok on that but than we walked by a small painted white sign with a hinge at the top resting on the road, about 2-feet wide and three feet tall, advertising flowers or something (here's the catch…) with three balloons dangling from the top of the sign sitting near the driveway into the flowershop at the small shopping mall. Mica looked at them, put her paws on the sign to lean on it, and one by one, nabbed her teeth into the balloons and each went pop. With narry a thought. Mica likes popping balloons! And they were someone elses balloons on an advertising sign. I didn't stop her, and was hoping they wouldn't see this basenji popping balloons. A new toy for her. Now how do you stop a basenji from enjoying itself? :D

She likes to chase flys too.

  • LOL… that is too cute, you should have had a video!

  • LOL!!
I haven't ever witnessed my B popping balloons. But, if I'm blowing bubbles, she loves to jump around trying to "catch" them in her mouth.

  • That is cute!!! A video would have been great…LOL

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

Our Puggle Chase is afraid of them too, I babysat once and took the little girl to Chuck E. Cheese, we brought home a mylar helium balloon and Chase kept barking at it, I had to hide it in the bathroom. I got one for my Birthday two weeks ago and thought he would be over it from the last time but he just kept barking at it. My DH did the same thing you did but he tied it to Zahra and she ran around with it on her collar. I was not happy about that and made him stop, she was having fun chasing it but poor Chase was terrified. I guess Zahra is fearless but our Puggle Chase is not.
