Dog-friendly Las Vegas

    I recently returned from a trip to Las Vegas. I was staying at the Westin Casaurina Hotel, which is about a block off the Strip on Flamingo Road. They seem to be very dog-friendly. I must've seen over a dozen dogs while I was there. I think they limit the dogs to only those 40 lbs or less. They charge a $35 one-time sanitation fee and a $70 deposit. They also provide doggie beds and bottled water, and there is a walking area out back with clean-up bags provided. The people I spoke with were very happy with the facility. I didn't have my B with me, but I think that would be a great place to stay if you are travelling by car. :)

    WOW! That's really great!! I love to find out about doggy friendly places. I go through so much anxiety when I have to leave them. I've only had to leave them once…now we're planning vacations WITH them. But they have to be driving distance :) DH is not trying to fly with them but I would LOVE to...I'm sure they would LOOOOVE to see Vegas or Florida or heck London or Rome :D :D hee hee...!

    I just got a subscription to Fido Friendly magazine so that I can find more places to travel with the dogs.

    In June we are taking a vacation in North Carolina at the Dog House Resort which is a Bed and Breakfast that is for dogs and their owners. I can't wait to go, we are going to go on a canoe trip with the dogs. I am not sure how Zahra will do with that but she does follow with some hesitation Chase when he jumps in the water.

    We're going to South Carolina & staying at a dog friendly time share. Can't wait to see what the B's think of the beach :)

    Thanks for the tip…Maybe we can stop at NC on our way down to SC....it's road trips only for us these days so we can take the Bs with us :)

    I am from Las Vegas, until six months ago moved to TN, and they have dog parks and parks with dog areas, fenced in. There is such competition between resorts for the almighty dollar. Over all Las Vegas is a pet friendly town. I have seen judges send animal abusers to jail time along with community service afterwards. There have been cases where the DA himself has prosecuted these cases and not just the wild horses being shot but dog abusers as well.

    It is good to hear that Las Vegas is pet friendly. I am going to Las Vegas this weekend for a dog show. We are actually staying in Hendersen in the Residence Inn which allows dogs and is close to the show grounds.

    In your position, where you really have to take her out a lot, I understand. And I hope her comfort continues. My point was it is situational need, not dog need to be that social. :) I have a slim chance of that having worked with my current 2, but with my incredibly dog aggressive first one, I'd have been out in a basket muzzle and warning everyone to keep their dogs away.

    If you ship him underneath in cargo, don't forget there are temperature restrictions. Where would you transfer planes at? This summer has been hot in many cities! Please check the requirements for the airline you will be traveling on. There is usually a limit to the number of dogs allowed on board and in cargo. You will need to make a reservation for him at the time you make your own. There may be additional requirements since you are coming from Canada, you will need to check with the USDA, the CDC and the State of Massachusetts. You can find the requirements on the USDA website and it has links to each state. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_welfare/pet_travel/pet_travel.shtml You need to make sure the carrier will fit under the seat so if the carrier you are considering is much larger than the large size Sherpa brand bag I doubt it will fit under the seat. I used to travel with Arnie onboard about 10 years ago before 9/11. I trained him to get in and out of the Sherpa bag and to stay in for short periods of time. He almost always laid down in it. He never made noise even when we were in first class and they served food! Most people did not even know I had a dog. I also made sure I was comfortable carrying him in the bag. I figured if the airline employees thought I was struggling with him then he was too heavy and he would not be let on the plane. He was an older pup but weighed about 18-20 lbs. Jennifer

    Owning a basenji requires a good sense of humor and a large dose of patience and a willingness to do some creative thinking to convince the basenjis what you want is really the same thing as what they want. So true, never a dull moment with these dogs

    i bought my wife a nice basenji charm several years ago. It was pretty nice. I had to order it as most dog places/stores/gifts (unless at a dog show) do not carry basenji stuff.

I noticed there are a lot of Northern Californians on the forum and I'm wondering where the really dog friendly area are. I might be working in San Jose, and would prefer to live about 1/2 hour north - maybe in Freemont/Union City/Newark area. Is this area dog friendly? Are there fenced in Dog Parks around? Hello there!
