Adopted B Arriving Soon

Basenji Talk
  • Hello, Our adopted B from BRAT, Jojo, is arriving tomorrow (Sunday) if all goes as planned. We are excited and have learned much from reading your posts. After Jojo settles in a bit we will post some pics of her. She had her thyroid tested recently by BRAT and she does have hypothyroidism but is on her meds. She is apparently shedding pretty bad right now but Paula, from BRAT, thinks it will improve as the meds build up in her blood stream. I understand that hypothyroidism is not uncommen in Bs? Jojo is our first B and we are looking forward to adding this special breed and girl to our family.

  • This so wonderful! I'm sure you're so excited for tomorrow! I'm so happy for Jojo and your family. Bless you for bringing her into your home and taking care of her. She surely deserves a great home. Best wishes for a memorable union. Looking forward to seeing your pics. ;)

  • Congrats to your family and Jojo! I look forward to hearing all about her homecoming and seeing pictures!

  • Congrats, welcome and we can't wait to see her and hear how she's doing. I'm sure she'll thrive in her new home!

The coat looks gorgeous - it's just the skin…I have noticed since it is persisting it down here (and cold - well it is Summer...) that the flaking is much better - I wonder if the flat is too dry for him? It has got central heating...which is till occasionally switched on - and it's nearly June :(

@Forever: I have been looking at him too lol my area my color and he seems sweet and he likes cats too though I can't say my cat will like him. I need to jump in and get my bratt visit done then see what happens. My problem is no fence yet. I know that is a mark against me. It is what keeps me from calling for the visit. We had plans but life happened and no fence again. Zoe seems happy with her daily walks and house play. She doesn't seem to mind being tied outside because we keep her company. I guess when the right time and b happen all will work itself out. But one thing about bratt is my worry about fanconi not sure they are tested. I worry about zoe I dont want that worry with another dog I agree with you… you already know about Zoe... and to adopt another that could be Affected... well, I certainly understand ... and FYI, they are not for the most part DNA tested... it is not something that BRAT requires... I would suppose that if you were interested in a certain dog that you could make that a condition of adoption, that he/she be tested first.... but I have no idea how BRAT would react to that...

Sahara has pawed my hand if wanting attention, pawed at my face, but smack, never. My cat has smacked me before, is the smack like a cat's? Describe it in more detail please.

They are called Diastix. Some drug stores still carry them, but many have to special order them. You can find them online though.

All three pups sleep in bed with us. We bought two double beds and stuck them togeather so we could all fit. It's still crowded. My next dog IS going to sleep in a crate!
