New Member, have question about yard

Basenji Talk
  • I know this may sound silly but I recently fenced in my backyard. It is about 67 feet deep and 110 feet wide. It is a nice big space and has just the usual back yard stuff, small patio, a small storage house, some plants, trees etc.

Is there anything special I can add to the yard to make it more fun for my B mix? Right now he loves zooming around and that is great but do Basenjis need more? and if so what.

I hope this makes sense it is very late (or early, depending on how you look at it)

    anyway,
    thanks!!

  • I like to add some stone paths in the yard for them to walk around on those "wet" days. They seem to not mind a wet stone as much as wet grass.

They love sand…....a sand box of some type.

  • squirrel feeder

some kind of perch next to your house so that they can look over the fence, and have a "high" place to sun worship

@saralars: This is off the subject of crate escape… I was told growing up that turkey and chicken bones were very dangerous for dogs. Are Basenjis different in this way too? Or am I missing something... Raw, uncooked bones are fine for any dog, not just Basenjis… it is "cooked" bones that are the problems

And don't be fooled when someone says "oh he's a little angel". EL D came to me with a reputation as being very destructive but never did any damage once I got him home and my current Luny had a reputation for being very nice in the house and turns out he has a severe anxiety problem and will destroy anything by the door if I leave with him loose. So be sure to watch the pup/dog for awhile to see how s/he acts on its own and with other dogs and also pay attention to how a dog reacts to you, a stranger.

@soulmate: Did not know that. But what for do you have to answer then the whole questions, when you register with the CPP? And yes, it would be helpfull, if you would be able to see in which country the B's are registered if they are not in the US. Regards, Esther Because CPP uses that data for other studies.

Shadow also used to 'pick' at his food. He started expanding so I cut back the food at each feeding and now he is eating normally and finishes his bowl when the others do.
