New here and new to Basenjis

Hi everyone. Sake and I are new here. Hope I can find some good advice and share my experiences. Sake is three months old, very energetic, sweet and learning lots of new things everyday.

Ok, ya gotta tell us more about him/her. What's it in to? Like to walk? Like to run? Pulling? Chewing? Snuggling? Good appetite? I love that you have it in your bed... under the covers. LOVE THAT! I know it's not everyone's thing and that's ok. I like my critters with me. Tell us more more more!

He is pretty much into everything! He has lots of energy and wants to chew a lot, climbs all sorts of chairs, desks, etc., plus he is into digging every single thing, so... so far my sofa cushions look more like if I have a cat rather than a dog with all the threads hanging. ( ﾟ^_^ﾟ). He hasn’t got his all-vaccination scheme so he is still at home, until mid-Jan.

Right now, I am also dog sitting for two weeks an older dog, Nilo (a mix of a Belgian Shepherd, I guess), who has been great teaching Sake a bit of bite inhibition, and just standard doggy social skills.

About appetite... Sake wasn’t into eating regularly, but the presence of the old dog (Nilo) has made him anxious about sharing his food or I guess just afraid that the other dog will eat it. So is eating better, but… now I am trying to figure it out the anxiety about food and trying to eat the food of the others.

I am located in Bogota, Colombia. I will ask the breeder all the info, so I can share the info about his parents.

I think that, in part, it is a survival skill. An "If you wait for everyone else to eat, you might not get anything"... kind of thing.

@elbrant That's how all my 8-some learned to catch.

If food dropped on the floor - you lost it ! So they all stood on their hind legs and it was like feeding a nest of fledgling sparrows. A gentle toss of the treat and someone caught it !
