Yeahhh - pretty typical basenji behavior for his age. I gave up on that type of bed, and now they both have big rectangular stuffed beds with fake sheepskin on top. I put a blanket over their beds, and now that they are 3 and 3 1/2, if they decide they are going to chew on anything, it will be the blanket. Shaye, the younger one, also likes another dog blanket totally covering her, and once in a while she'll get up with that still on her, hanging like a train, because it gets stuck on her tail - looks adorable, embarrasses her, so she sometimes bites that one too.
My talented boy!

I've made a few short videos of Perry retrieving objects by name. He's pretty good, although he prefers to throw them at me rather than handing them to me!

He will also go find something that is in another room.

Very Cute!
My dear departed B,Thunder had over 100 toys.
He knew every one and would do this also.
He passed away in 2003 way before utube, etc.
I wish I could have gotten it on video.
He was the love of my life and left me way to young. -
How civilized! I can't imagine getting Lela or Binti to do that.

Cara knows the names for about a dozen of her's (OH NO mr bill, hedgie, etc). It is so fun when they'll get what you ask for. Loved the happy responses to you!

You would be surprised! I taught him "pick it up" with clicker training. It's a very useful generic command. You add the names of things as you go. Getting him to bring the item to me was a natural progression, starting with insisting he give it to me to "earn" his reward. Increasing distance gradually leads to a very good retrieve! Perry works best just before his supper time. He knows when he gets it right, dinner will be served. Motivation!
