Again, hope that you have contacted BRAT to take them for placement….. It would be great if you have had them tested for Fanconi with the DNA test.. that would help in getting them placed faster...

@dcmclcm4: She has been adopted but if she gets returned for some reason, a rescue group in Indianapolis will take her. She did eat a microphone or something similar from a desk at the shelter! Well, that answers the Q about if she is PB :p

Hard to say whether the breeder will take her back. I'll ask. The owner isn't willing to "give" Tiara to anyone, she wants the adoption fee. Tiara belongs in a home without other dogs or children, lots of one-on-one training, long walks for exercise, high quality/low-fat/low-carb food, and a stress free environment. It is disturbing that a six-year-old Basenji is looking at yet another home. I should stop looking at petfinder.

Hi jagm - Are you really sure you want puppies? Have you ever bred a litter before? It is truly more work than I would have ever thought, especially if you are doing all of the right things, as listed above by tanza & lvoss. Are you prepared to keep 6 or so puppies forever? I used to think to neuter & spay was cruel as well, but realistically, that's only a selfish notion. Good luck in finding your boy a companion! I found one for my girl & that's the best thing I could have done for her, other than having her spayed.

Most of the BRAT folks I know, spend $$ to help dogs that they are moving to other homes. They pay for gas, postage, food, collars, crates…really, almost anything you can think of to get the dogs into shape to go to the new homes with all the "things" that they need. I am afraid I will not be able to give these things to fosters, as I have in the past, due to the paycuts we are all taking. BUT most of us are working for the dogs. We are lucky to have a great support group to help us.
