Hello from Philadelphia!

  • I just got my first Basenji's (which I have been wanting for about 15 years now) and expect to be on this site quite a bit! About 8 weeks ago I met my two new pups (yes two, but they were both "left overs" from a breeder and needed homes!) and so far it has been a bit of a whirlwind.

Hudson is my tri-male from a litter 1/2015. He is super willing to please, is very excited to learn new tricks, but has been having some interesting bowel issues. (I plan on posting on the health board in a bit). He snores, but boy is he a cuddle bug.

Hazel is my red female from a litter 12/2014. She is much more "textbook" basenji (from what I read). She is the only dog I have ever known to run AWAY from the dog park in the midst of having fun. After being gone for 4 days, and then to the doggy ICU here in Philadelphia, she is now regaining strength, even though she has a little doggy cast (that has been replaced 5 times in the last 2 weeks along with 6 different cones of shame). I cannot wait to get this cast off to get some of this puppy energy out!

I plan on posting on the health board re: putting on weight, intermittant bowel issues, training, crate training, agility, and possibly lure coursing. Looking forward to pick your brains!

I own five basenjis. Two yodel until you have a headache and my female barks. She always did. Short clipped barks. I also researched the breed before getting my first and she is an excellent dog. My third basenji was a handful. Three years later and he has stopped his destructiveness etc. It was a hard three years. Lol. You never know with a basenji. Greatest breed. Loyal, active, funny but some require ALOT of patience.

Mallia is the third Basenji we have the pleasure of having in the last 30 years. She is a female where as the first two were males.

Welcome, from another Ohioan. We are on the north side of columbus and have 1 r/w boy. We have occasionaly taken him to the Westerville dog park but his behavior has not be great lately. We have cut back. We also help BRAT transport and foster. Great to have more B's in Ohio. I see so few of them in Columbus.

First off, Welcome to our site of valueable Basenji information. I have learned so much linking into this site, we have lots of laughs as well. My B, Sahara, crosses her legs all the time, she is such a showoff and often has the regal queen look. I love the look myself, they are such beautiful dogs I must say, not that I am partial or anything. Your Piper is so cute, welcome again.

Dave hello, I also am new to this site. I had my frist Basenji for sixteen years and lost her last year. I could only go for about a month before getting my next Basenji. I really love this breed I have two now. Good luck in your search for your next Basenji.
